trip description for Hardcore Seamount Adventure in Puerto Jiménez

These FAD (Fish Aggregating Device) trips are specifically designed for the hardcore angler who thinks that they've done it all. Off of Costa Rica, there's an abundance of dormant underwater volcanoes scattered between 70–150 miles offshore. Because of the change in water depth and the abundance of bait in these areas, they've proven to be perfect places to deploy FADs. FADs are any underwater structure you deploy yourself—essentially allowing Captain Tyler to create his own personal reefs, mark them on his GPS, and then fish his own exclusive, offshore honey holes. For this experience, an overnight trip is absolutely worth it. Captain Tyler offers 1-night to 4-night FAD trips and can accommodate up to 4 anglers on each. All trips start on the evening of the first day, involve an overnight motor offshore, and then fishing from 5: AM to sundown; that's 12 hours of fishing on a 36-hour trip, 24 hours of fishing on a 60-hour trip, and 36 hours of fishing on a 84-hour trip. Finally, you'll travel back to Quepos overnight and be on the dock in time for breakfast. Whether you choose a 2-night trip or a 4-night trip, you'll be taken care of aboard Captain Tyler's 46′ Guthrie built in North Carolina. This boat was originally brought to Costa Rica by the legendary fly fisherman Harry Gray, but it was designed specifically for fishing the fertile Pacific waters right off Costa Rica. She is the last wood hull boat Guthrie ever built, and is one of the best fish-raising boats anywhere. She's got a fully air-conditioned cabin, full bathroom, kitchen, two staterooms, and is the perfect fish raising platform for the central pacific of Costa Rica. She features full Garmin and Raymarine electronics, Rupp Outriggers, Tuna Tubes, Live Well and pull double dredges. She is powered by a Detroit 8V92 and cruises at 20 knots. Tyler will provide all the best equipment: Shimano TLD 30 and 50 class conventional reels along with Penn 50 and 80 class conventional and spinning equipment. He also offers fly fishing equipment as well if that peaks your interest: He uses Billy Pate reels and Sage Rods. If you want to have the closest thing to a guaranteed Marlin catch, this is your trip. A trip like this is not for the faint of heart, but if you are willing to spend the time getting to these rich waters, the rewards are incredible, and Captain Tyler and his 46' Guthrie are here to make sure your Quepos FAD trip will one-up any fishing adventure you've ever been on!
