Numerous inshore species reside here including trout, redfish, Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, black drum, jacks, tarpon, snook, and flounder. Starting with cool water temperatures, the largest black drum is caught in the spring when they pour into the inlets. The warmer summer water brings on the flounder, tarpon, and mackerel bite with redfish and trout hitting hardest in the fall. Sheepshead move in during the winter months where they form tight groups near structure making them easier to target.

Amelia Island Offshore Fishing
Offshore fishing out of Amelia Island provides plenty of opportunities to catch a wide variety of prized sportfish. Take a short boat ride to open water and you will have a decision to make. Troll for kingfish, cobia, marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi, or deep drop for snapper and grouper species over structure. In addition, the area is home to the biggest wahoo tournament in the world, the Northeast Florida Wahoo Shootout.
A normal trolling assortment of rods and outriggers is preferred for kingfish, cobia, and mahi-mahi but in Florida, they kite fish for monsters. This unique approach of attaching a trolling line to a kite that flies behind the boat is used to catch tuna, billfish, and wahoo.
