Had a great day fishing Galveston Bay with our Guide Captain LG. So much fun to watch my daughters land keeper speckled trout. From Booking our day trip to having our fish cleaned and bagged couldn’t have been an better. Big thanks to Jonathan at Captain Experiences who actually answered his phone at 7:00 in the morning after I got lost!

We had a great time with Capt LG. Weather was not good but LG found fish and we had fun time. His location at Galveston Yacht Basin is really convenient for people staying on the Island. Will definitely fish with him again and weather permitting will try the jetties next time!.

Everything You Need to Know About Texas City, Texas Fishing

Fishing Texas City

With all this inshore access, Texas City is a prime destination for catching the big three or “Inshore Slam” which consists of flounder, redfish, and speckled trout. You'll also find sheepshead and black drum and several other fish patrolling the waters around Texas City. There are great fishing opportunities everywhere you look with quality fish being caught in the bays, around the dike, and on the flats. With an inshore bite year-round, there is never a bad time to fish in Texas City!

Texas City Bay Fishing

A prime starting point for bay fishing out of Texas City is the Galveston Bay Complex. Texas City has great access to Galveston Bay, East Bay, Trinity Bay, and West Bay isn’t far either. With these four famous fishing bays in such close proximity, it’s easy to see why the bay fishing out of Texas City is so productive. Redfish and speckled trout are popular year-round targets for this area. The Trout bite peaks in the spring with flounder heating up in the summer while bull redfish start pouring into the bays in the fall, and finally sheepshead bring the bite full circle with tight groups forming in the winter.

Fishing the Texas City Dike

The starting point for any angler in the area is the Texas City Dike. This five-mile levee is the longest manmade fishing pier in the world and stretches out southeast from the city towards Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico. The dike is a favorite among locals for the great fishing opportunities and is a common place for charters to launch from. The most popular fish caught near the dike are redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead, and flounder which make the inshore slam possible in one location.

Offshore Fishing from Texas City

With Texas City being located further from the gulf, there are not many offshore charters. With Galveston nearby, offshore fishing is easily accessible. You can head out into the gulf and hook up to giant sportfish like tuna, wahoo, and marlin with an offshore fishing charter in Galveston.

While spending time in Texas City you will discover there are plenty of things to do and places to check out.
