Captain Dean was a Great guide. He did everything he could to put us on the fish. I will definitely be booking with him again!!
Captain Dean showed our group an unbelievable time with nonstop action! We met Captain Dean at Thompson Fishing Camp in Baytown, TX (Capt. Dean does trips all around Galveston Bay and is happy to meet wherever best given the conditions). He was early and was waiting for us. After I purchased some live bait, we headed out. It was 40 degrees and raining, but none of us seemed to care. After a quick 10-15 min. run, we hit our first spot. Captain Dean positioned the boat for our drift over some shell bottom oyster flats. The bite was ferocious from the first drift on and didn't stop until we had to leave! We must've caught over 20 speckled trout, mostly in the 12-18" range, but a few that were well beyond 20 inches! Towards the back end of our last drift, something nearly ripped my rod out of my hand- after a long battle (which was an absolute blast on light tackle!), we brought to hand a massive 33" redfish! She was a tank too- awesome to see such a healthy fish swim away freely. While we should've stayed at our hot spot, we had to get going. The rain had subsided and on the way in, Capt. Dean noticed birds working the surface in a dense ball of activity. We couldn't resist, gave the area a drift, and caught a flounder on our first cast to complete the Texas Slam! Captain Dean knows his bay and its fish. He's also a fantastic personality to spend a day with- full of jokes that'll make you set the rod down laughing (by the way- he fishes Waterloo rods which are super light, strong, and smooth to cast, retrieve, and fight fish on). Book a trip with Capt. Dean, truly one of our #DamnGoodGuides. -Reviewed by Jonathan Newar, the founder of Captain Experiences.
Dean was there when we arrived, very instructional with an 8 year old and new fisher woman, very patient, taught all the ropes, took us to potential good spots, caught only a few fish but tried hard, I’d try again if in the area with captain…he’s easy to work with…Morgan
After having taken several guided trips between Texas and Louisiana, my trip with Cap’t Muckleroy ranks as one of the best. Cap’t Muckleroy was ready to launch by the time we made it to the dock and the first thing that stood out was the cleanliness of the boat and Cap’t Muckleroy’s warm “welcome aboard” attitude. We were apprised of the safety requirements and the location of emergency/safety items. My sons (12 and 17) seemed at ease with his disposition. Cap’t Muckleroy was very knowledgeable with regards to the body of water we were fishing (Galveston Bay), the stops and locations seemed to be of a pattern that was determined by the days conditions. Several fish were caught at each stop and limits were easily caught with the Cap’t focusing on making sure that us as the customers steadily had the best opportunities to catch fish. It was especially pleasing to see him coach my 12yr old when ever he had a fish on to make sure the fish made it to the boat. Even though limits were achieved relatively early, we continued to fish (catch and release) well into the day until my sons became a little restless. We enjoyed a pleasant ride back to the dock and chatted with the Cap’t whilst he filleted and bagged our catch. I would definitely recommend Cap’t Dean Muckleroy and would consider him as a “must do” on Galveston Bay!!
Captain Dean has been guiding our family for several years. I have taken many friends and family out with him and always love what Captain Dean does to make the day great. We have young impressionable boys, and Captain Dean always makes it a point to keep the experience age appropriate. The boat is clean, the guide is on point and he does not mind calling you in advance and being honest about the conditions of the weather, if they have change and might affect the outcome of catching fish. My wife enjoys him, because he does remind her often, that she out fishes most people. I highly recommend his services and he has great fishing stories to share. What we love about Captain Dean the most is that he is very concerned about the conservation of our bay waters.
