About Your Trip

Head out to Freeport, Texas if you’re in for a true fishing adventure and pay a visit to Captain Rodney of Oilfield Outkasts. Captain Rodney will show you various reefs and wrecks, all brimming with quality fish and surrounded by beautiful nature.

This charter enters Federal waters (9+ miles offshore) which means you’ll be able to catch much larger fish and a wider variety than if you were to fish in Texas State waters (up to 9 miles out). For these trips, Captain Rodney will help you primarily chase Red Snapper.

Captain Rodney will use one of two boats: “Hitch Life” and “Killing Time.” Hitch Life is a 32′ 2020 Cape Horn with a pair of Yamaha 300 engines. She is considered to be unsinkable and can take you anywhere you want to go. She is outfitted with a 22″ Garmin fishfinder, a top speed of about 62 mph, and a range of 500 miles. Also permitted with Federal fisheries permits.

Killing Time is Captain Rodney’s 34′ Fountain. Designed to bring you close to the action fast, she boasts twin Yamaha 350s. With a bathroom on board, she’s great for long offshore trips. She also has Federal fishing permits.

Make sure to bring a valid Texas fishing license as well as snacks and drinks of your choice (no glass). Oilfield Outcasts will provide the rest - rods, reels, tackle, and an icebox for your day’s catch.

Enjoy your day on the water with Captain Rodney and Oilfield Outcasts!

About Your Guide

When Captain Rodney Harper of Oilfield Outkasts was laid off in May 2016 from the oilfield, his son was also diagnosed with cancer. He immediately had to find an alternative resource to support his family.

He had owned his 27' Catamaran, "Revelry", since 2012 and figured he'd have to sell her to make ends meet. Instead, Captain Rodney's wife told him that he should put the boat to work given his love of fishing.

And the rest is history! In the first 5 months of 2016 Oilfield Outkasts fished over 1,000 customers, and now, Captain Rodney & Co. have 6 boats in the fleet!

These guys are as good as it gets. It took us a bit to get on the fish , Rodney was doing everything he could to get us to them and when he did, it didn’t disappoint. I’ve been on charters off all three coasts and this was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had. We won’t be shopping around for future trips, we have found our crew.

Full day with Rodney Harper and crew. Limits of big Kings and Red Snapper. A bull red and lots of shark. Awesome! The best!

Had a great fishing trip with Captain Rodney and first mate Aaron. The weather man missed the mark and the water was pretty choppy, but Captain Rodney handled it like a pro. It was the first time in the gulf for my daughters and mom and they all they had a blast! We caught shark, kingfish, red snapper, and catfish. It was a wonderful trip and we will definitely be calling them again!
