About Your Trip

Hop on board with Captain Roger Sorenson and Southwest Sport Fishing and get ready for an action-packed day of fishing!

Launching out of Woody’s Sport Center, Captain Roger will take you to the offshore waters of Port Aransas where you can expect to target Kingfish, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Cobia, Blue Marlin, Sharks, and Red Snapper (depending on the season). You will target these various fish species using fishing techniques such as light tackle, bottom fishing, and trolling. The Southwest Sport Fishing crew will have you reelin’ in some trophy-sized fish in no time!

Captain Roger fishes aboard a 33’ Bertram Express cruiser (1984), with a capacity for six people. Powered by twin 275 HP Caterpillar engines with a maximum cruising speed of 25 knots, the vessel is safe and steady on its way offshore. The vessel is complete with a GPS and a fishfinder, a livewell for the bait, and an icebox for the catch. This sportfisher comes with all the comforts of home: a full-size toilet, bed, kitchen, and life jackets.

The crew will provide rods, reels, tackle, and lures. All you need is a valid Texas fishing license, an ice chest for the day’s catch, as well as some food and drinks. These trips can host up to 6 people, so make sure you bring some good company!

Enjoy a day fishing the waters of Port Aransas with Captain Roger and Southwest Sport Fishing!

About Your Guide

Captain Roger Sorenson of Southwest Sportfishing started chartering out of Port Aransas in the late 1970s. Roger's dad started bringing him to Port Aransas when he was a kid and he fell in love. Captain Roger fishes the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico and finds it very satisfying when he sees his guests catch great fish!

What a day. Captain Roger greeted us at the dock, helped us onto the boat and the adventure began. We told the Capt. that we could not take fish home easily on the plane home so we just wanted the poles to bend. Bend they did. I took my son and son in law on our first off shore experience and all I can say is this trip was beyond anything I could imagine. We caught fish from the time we started until we departed for the return trip back to the dock. Six foot shark, 40 pound King mackerel and 14 other Kings in the 20 to 35 pound range. Also 2 Jacks at about 25 pounds apiece. Hate to admit this but our arms were so sore that the end of the trip was welcomed. I could not recommend Capt. Roger more highly. First class all the way. Will book this trip the next time we are in Texas.

This is our 4th year to fish with Captain Roger. Every year he just keeps delivering a fantastic experience! The Last Call is big and comfortable with an air conditioned cabin to take a break from the heat. His mate Alec is energetic, passionate about fishing, and taking care of customers. Roger has always put us on lots of fish. This year he found really big ones! Roger and Alec helped me take home 1st place for Kingfish in the Deep sea roundup tournament and a lifetime of memories. I highly recommend you charter with Southwest Sport Fishing and make some memories of your own!

This was an awesome experience for our family(my wife and I, 14 year old son and 13 year old daughter). The Captain had several spots to go to if fishing slowed down or stopped and it provided us with an experience that will never be forgotten. The Captain and first mate were laid back and easy to talk too. If we go back and do this again we will most definitely use them again. The Captain has many years on these waters, it’s very obvious he knows where the fish are. They were very helpful with instruction and most importantly very patient with us as we were pretty much newbies at this style of fishing.
