6-hours and caught no fish (other than x8 trash fish); tho not for want of trying...we moved a number of times when the "fishing hole" did not produce (a good thing in that we didn't waste time in a bad area). Thought we would also fish for Red Fish...but spent the entire trip looking for speckled trout. Garret, with more experience, will be a great guide...but today's experience was a bit disappointing on some levels while a great adventure on another level,

My husband and I went out with Captain Garrett today. Limited out with Reds and Black Drum in about 2 1/2 hrs. Had a blast!! Capt. Garrett put us on fish right from the start. Very impressed! If my husband and I make it back down this way again, we will definitely call Fish Texas Coast. Capt. Garrett is the best!!

Garret took my boyfriend and I out hunting for Reds, while other guides said they weren't biting right now. We limited out in 2 hours! Go with the guide that wants to find the fish as bad as you do ! We'll be back for Gar fishing, be ready Garret

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): Fishing trip with Capt Garrett was awesome! Took afternoon trip 3pm to 8pmish, 27 April 19. Went out Saturday to fish with Capt Garrett. Let me tell ya. Was a great day to be a cloud, but not such a good day to be a fish, unless ya were undersized one and got thrown back. First and last casts, and lots in between, caught fish. Red fish. Black drum. Lots of keepers. :) Was pretty windy when we went out. The open water was a bit rough, but Capt Garrett's boat was slicker than a frightened gafftop. I thought it was a fun go. My fishing mate has far much more experiencing boat fishing. She said for the conditions, the ride was super smooth, and very complimentary of the way the boat handled and the manner Capt Garrett drove 'er. To me, just being on the boat half a day was worth the price of admission. As an unplanned bonus, saw a dolphin playing around in the bay (whatever Bay we were in). I coulda caught nothing and been super happy, but as said, got a lot of keepers. About small gafftops. These slimy hardheaded sea catfish are not allowed on the boat. I got a kick out of distain the good Cap'n has for these creatures. LOL. Hardheads are rapidly dispatched. Braced against the OUTSIDE of the boat, hook grabbed with some long pliers, and with a flick of the wrist, away the fish goes. "Waste of good shrimp." I'm tellin' ya, don't even invade the airspace above the boat with these life support systems for a nasty dorsal spike. LOL. If you catch a behemoth, maybe he'd let ya, but with the little buggers we caught, overboard they went. Capt Garrett wants you succeed on your fishing journey. He wants you to have a blast. He wants you to not forget your sunscreen. Thank goodness for the SPF-75 he had aboard, as we were slow to get to the dock and I forgot to lather up. Not even five minutes in, clippin' along, he taps me on the shoulder with the sunscreen. "Here. You need this." I did, for sure. Capt G literally saved my skin. :) After all is said and done, he cleans the keepers and sends the fillets home with ya. Payment: Easy as pie. Takes credit cards, but CC company charges a fee to cardholder, which isn't his fault. He suggests using Venmo to avoid paying the fee. Things not to forget, like I did, even after being told not to forget them - Fishing license (forgotten ones can be replaced at Wal-Mart or elsewhere for $10 (don't ask how I know). Sunglasses. Sunscreen. Jacket, just in case (got chilly in evening). Ball cap or brimmed hat. Ice chest for beverages during trip and holding temps, 40F or lower per FDA guidance, for your new fillets to stay until home or into yer belly. In summary, really enjoyed this trip. Would definitely book with Capt Garrett again. He showed up even when weather was less than optimal (another guide no-showed a party at the same dock). Though 20 mph winds make a great day to be a cloud, I'm told the same is not true for fishing and boating. The wind didn't bother me in the least, really had zero clue that it was even an issue. Fish were caught. Fun times were had. Capt Garrett was awesome, good hearted, hilarious - ask him about Uganda, and professional. Easy 5/5 stars from me. Thanks Cap'n! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
