Head out on the waters of Grand Traverse Bay with Captain Sam for a unique nighttime fishing experience targeting some of Northern Michigan’s most active species. With eight years of guiding experience, Captain Sam specializes in introducing anglers of all skill levels to the fast-paced world of bowfishing around Traverse City.

Nighttime Bowfishing Adventure

This 6-hour guided bowfishing trip takes place after dark, when powerful onboard lights illuminate the shallow water and reveal fish moving below the surface. Using specialized bowfishing equipment, you’ll target species such as carp, gar, dogfish (bowfin), and suckers while cruising the productive waters around Grand Traverse Bay.

Bowfishing offers a different style of fishing than traditional rod-and-reel angling. Instead of casting a line, you’ll aim and shoot using a bow and arrow designed specifically for fishing, making for an engaging and hands-on experience. Captain Sam will guide you through the technique and help spot fish as you move along the shoreline and shallow flats.

This trip is designed to be approachable for both beginners and experienced anglers, and Captain Sam is happy to walk first-timers through the equipment and techniques so everyone can get involved.

Your Boat:

You’ll be fishing aboard a 20’ Alumacraft (2072) powered by a 115 HP Yamaha engine. This stable aluminum boat is well-suited for navigating the shallow waters commonly fished during bowfishing trips. Outfitted with specialized lighting systems and bowfishing gear, the boat is designed to provide excellent visibility and a comfortable platform for targeting fish at night.

What’s Included

Your trip includes all bowfishing equipment and gear, so you can arrive ready to fish. Captain Sam will provide instruction, help locate fish, and make sure everyone is comfortable with the equipment throughout the trip.

Before your trip, anglers will need to purchase a valid Michigan fishing license through the Michigan DNR.

Whether you’re trying bowfishing for the first time or looking for a new way to experience Northern Michigan’s waters, Captain Sam’s guided trip offers a memorable night exploring the shallows of Grand Traverse Bay.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
