All fishing is done off 18ft aluminum boats, which are fitted with 75 – 150hp motors. Each boat carries two anglers and a professional guide. There is ample storage and seating areas for three people. Boats are equipped with two-way radios and first aid equipment. Your professional guides have all spent extensive time guiding on these rivers, so you can be assured that they know these waters intimately and will ensure you have a safe and enjoyable fishing experience.
While gear and tackle may be provided, Zambezi Grande recommends that avid anglers bring their own equipment.
The best time of year for fishing is as the waters start to warm up from the end of August through to November. Great fishing is also experienced during the winter months, depending on tactics and method. Please note, a strict catch-and-release policy is enforced!
Wow - what an amazing experience :) Stunning lodge with wonderful staff. Loved my stay at Zambezi Grande.
My experience of the Zambezi Grande was just short of perfect. I was privileged to be part of a Travel Agent Fam trip this past weekend and from the moment we arrived and was welcomed by the staff’s singing and beating of the drums I could feel the Zambian hospitality. ...Read More Obert and his team just know how to make you feel welcome and at home. The lodge is right on the edge of the Zambezi River and the view from the deck stretches for miles and you could spot and hear the hippos frolicking in the river below. My room was spacious and beautifully decorated. My open-plan bathroom took me a while to get use to, but on my final night I did try out the Victorian bath. The outside shower is was also spacious with two rain shower heads perfect for couples and if you are braver than me, then you can shower with curtain open and enjoy the view of the bush and the river. I loved that I was not bothered by bugs, other than the harmless little frog who kept me company on my last night there. The room is equipped with 2 aircons, a ceiling fan as well as standing fan. Believe me, you will appreciate these as it can get very hot and humid during the summer months. The lodge itself allows you to take in some much needed R&R with relaxing chairs and couches and lounges all over. The food has not disappointed either as we were spoiled every day with little surprises along the way. The freshly baked biscuits and muffins was my downfall. The river cruises are my favourite as it allowed me to relax (maybe a bit too relaxed) and soak up the sun while enjoying the spectacular views around me with a G&T in my hand. Getting stuck in the middle of the river was interesting and Derrick and Amos (our skippers) kept us calm and informed the whole time. Needless to say we were not worried at all – that was until we found out that we had run out of tonic water for our G&T’s 😊. Levy was our game ranger and took us out on morning and evening game drives. He was very informed and knew a lot about the area and the animals that inhabited it. We manage to see elephants (they were everywhere), a few buffalos, and lots of plains game. However the bush was so green and lush (not so great for spotting leopards), but perfect for photography and bird watching. We were surprised with a lunch in the bush on the banks of the Zambezi River after one of our extended morning game drives. The visit to the local village was so insightful and gave us a glimpse into the lives of the local people. The children of the village are so precious and curious and really blessed my heart. Would love to come back with a donation of stationary and school supplies next time I am privileged enough to visit the Zambezi Grande. I experienced fishing for the first time and was not even able to cast my rod correctly, but how amazed was I when my hook was the one the tiger fish decided to nibble on. The excitement was so contagious when Amos assisted me with reeling in the ± 3kg tiger fish out of the water (I have the pictures to proof it 😊). On our last night at Zambezi Grande we were surprised with a bush dinner that included some braai meat accompanied by local delicacies and drumming, singing and dancing. Absolutely Amazing!
We were spending 4 days at this amazing place with wonderful hosts which made us feel home from the first minute we stepped in. Game drives and river cruises were organized very professional. Accommodation was high notch. Thanks for unforgettable memories !!!
