Captain Jay runs fun and productive trips in Marathon FL from December to March every year. The rest of the year he actually runs trips out of Hatteras NC. On these trips Captain Jay will try and target whichever species you'd prefer.

You can troll the close offshore waters to fill the freezer with delicious Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna, Trophy fish for the likes of Sailfish, Marlin, and Swordfish, or head out to deep drop for Tilefish, Triggerfish, Rock Snapper, and Grouper! All these options can depend on the weather on the day of your trip, but Captain Jay will do the best he can within his capabilities to make sure you have the best possible time out on the Water!

You will love fishing with Captain Jay as he likes to mingle, joke and fish with his customers. He is a Captain that loves seeing the customers experience the joy of fishing.

The Runaway is a 46′ Carolina boat built by Sheldon Midgett in Wanchese, NC. She has a large comfortable cabin with A/C and heat. The boat is also equipped with top notch electronics such as NAV- NET navigation system, furuno depth finders, radar and temperature gauges. She offers the finest in fishing gear such as Penn and Shimano rod and reels. USCG safety equipment. She has a large cockpit that will accommodate 6 fisherman very comfortable with a fighting chair and 2 helm chairs.

Needless to say, these trips come loaded with all the gear, bait and fuel you could possibly need for a successful adventure so all you need to bring are your favorite snacks and drinks, and Captain Jay will take care of the rest!

Captain Jay is an experienced captain who will share with you his love of fishing. New anglers will enjoy catching fish as he knows where to find them. Previous customers continue to return to fish with him for the same reason. Everyone will have a great time.

Captain Jay is a certified USCG captain and understands the responsibilities of getting you safely to and from the fishing grounds. Captain Jay started fishing freshwater lakes and rivers all over the east coast at an early age. For the past 15 years, he has lived and fished the waters around Hatteras NC during the Spring and Summer months and spent his late Winter and Early Spring months down in Marathon FL, for the past few years. He mated on several of the top boats in Hatteras mastering his skills before becoming the Captain of the Runaway.

His love of fishing has made him become one of the top fishermen on Hatteras Island. Captain Jay will give you one of your best fishing trips that you will not forget.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

If the weather doesn’t cooperate you’ll be covered by our 100% weather guarantee and you won’t lose your deposit.

We vet our guides to make sure they are the best of the best. We want guides who not only put you on 'em, but show you a great time, keep you safe, and give you a memorable experience with your group.

Once you've paid your deposit at checkout, we'll send you a boarding pass. Just show your guide your boarding pass on the day of the trip, they'll scan it, the remaining balance will transfer automatically, and you'll be all set to get out there. Just make sure you bring a cash tip for the guide!

In the case of inclement weather, our guides will make the call and we'll work with you to reschedule your trip or issue a credit for the full deposit of the trip to be used on any of our trips across the country. Your safety is our top concern.

Each trip’s price is set by the guide and factors in all of their costs. A big determinant of cost is often the type of boat and associated fuel costs, but other guide costs include leases, marina / slip fees, bait costs, and the cost to provide and maintain all of the gear you’ll need on your trip.
