About Your Guide

Captain Gus

Independent Guide
Captin Gus has lived back and forth from Colorado to South Texas my entire life. His father moved to the island when Gus was a boy and taught him the ins and outs of the bay every summer throughout his childhood. Together they spent countless hours finding potholes full of trout and sand flats littered with redfish. His father instilled in him a fierce passion for the outdoors and planted the seeds for him to pursue a career chasing the critters he has come to love and respect.

With the help of some local legends including forty year veteran Capt. Skipper Ray, Gus has honed his skills as a fisherman and professional guide fishing the Lower Laguna Madre. But for him the bay still provides an incredible environment to learn and grow. Every day he finds new places to fish and duck hunt and he welcomes you to join him on one of these incredible adventures!

During the fall Captain Gus heads north to Crawford, Colorado to team up with the Homestead Ranch Crew to chase elk, deer, mountain lion, and bear. Homestead Ranch is an original homestead that the McLeods have maintained since 1914. Six generations of incredible preservation have built the hunting experience of a lifetime. He is truly honored to have been a part of this team for the last few years.

Each trip’s price is set by the guide and factors in all of their costs. A big determinant of cost is often the type of boat and associated fuel costs, but other guide costs include leases, marina / slip fees, bait costs, and the cost to provide and maintain all of the gear you’ll need on your trip.
Once you book the trip, we will connect you directly with the guide to go over any additional details. In the meantime, our team is always available to answer your questions via email, text, chat, or call!
