In the gulf, your targets will be King Mackerel, Cobia, Blackfin Tuna, Sharks, Red Snapper, Grouper, Triggerfish, and much more depending on the season. The bayside is teeming with Trout, Redfish, Black Snapper, Flounder, Ladyfish and Bluefish. Captain Mike primarily uses live bait, but he can easily accommodate fly and artificial fishermen as well. All the equipment from rods, reels, tackle and bait will be provided, along with a seasoned guide who will be there to help along the way. As a matter of fact he will also be happy to clean the catch for you following the trip. If you don’t want to keep the fish, Captain Mike is experienced in CPR fishing – “Catch, Photo, Release”. You will troll off-and-on throughout the day: first on the way to your first fishing spot, on your way back to Destin, and also on longer runs in between spots. We also sometimes switch to (or stay with) primarily trolling efforts if you catch your limit of your primary target-fish or if the trolling action just happens to be on fire, but the #1 objective overall is quality bottom fish for your whole group. On the 12 hour fishing trip, you can expect to be targeting a large variety of species, based on season and availability. On the trolling lines, we will be tempting the most highly desired top-water fish like King Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, Bonita, and more. When we arrive at the bottom-fishing spots, we will be hunting down any and all premium species that are in season- probably one or more of the many types of Grouper or the elite Red Snapper. On this 12 hour trip, you can travel up to 50 miles offshore. At this distance offshore you can expect to hook into some true sea monsters! While trolling with Captain Matthew, you may have a chance to catch many species, such as King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, and Bonitas. These are the more common fish. Other species you might encounter as well are Wahoos, Dolphins, Blackfin Tunas, Barracudas, and Sailfish. During your travel out to deeper water, the mates will be working to make sure you are ready to go when we get to our fishing spot. They will be cutting bait, getting rods ready, and teaching you the basics of fishing school.
