Whether you're getting your first license or traveling to a new destination, getting a local fishing license is a must. To make the process a little easier, we've listed all of the state and country government licensing sites below. Simply find your state or country on the list below and follow the link for the official government licensing site for fishing licenses and permits. You will need a license in the state or country in which you are fishing, not where you live, so if you are traveling be sure to look for the location where you'll be reeling them in.
Fishing licenses are regulated at the state level in the US and at the federal level abroad, so the pricing and licensing vary a little bit everywhere. Licenses are easily bought online for all US states and most international destinations (or offline at local retailers, if you prefer). Licensing exists as a way for states and countries to collect money that goes towards conservation - you are directly paying for the safety and longevity of the waterways you will be heading out to fish.
A fishing license is usually the only mandatory item that you will need to bring on our trips, and it is certainly the only one that fishing without can get you into big trouble. We also don't want to get our guides into any trouble with the law, and if you don't have a license you won't be able to step aboard, so be sure to buy one before you head out.
