Starting with cool water temperatures, the largest black drum is caught in the spring when they pour into the inlets. The warmer summer water brings on the flounder, tarpon, and mackerel bite with redfish and trout hitting hardest in the fall. Jacksonville Deep Sea Fishing
Offshore fishing out of Jacksonville provides plenty of opportunities to catch a wide variety of prized sportfish. Take a short boat ride to open water and you will have a decision to make. Troll for kingfish, cobia, marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi, or deep drop for snapper and grouper species over structure. In addition, the area is home to the biggest wahoo tournament in the world, the Northeast Florida Wahoo Shootout.
A normal trolling assortment of rods and outriggers is preferred for kingfish, cobia, and mahi-mahi but in Florida, they kite fish for monsters. This unique approach of attaching a trolling line to a kite that flys behind the boat is used to catch tuna, billfish, and wahoo.
