Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

Our trip with Capt Bill was OUTSTANDING! Great boat, great teacher—my grandson learned an amazing amount about how to catch fish. I would strongly recommend Capt Bill to anyone who wants to have great fun, learn a lot, and catch great fish!!!

Our family had a great time with Captain Scott! His first mate Jimmy was so enthusiastic and really wanted to help us all catch big fish. My young adult kids rated the experience an 11 out of 10. Overall we caught 4 King Mackerals (and a few sharks that we threw back). Scott recommended a local restaurant (The Salty Pelican) that would prepare our catch, so we enjoyed a delicious lunch after our morning on the boat.

Outstanding fishing trip and adventure with Captain Bill. Celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary, I decided to book a deep-sea fishing trip while visiting our daughter in Jacksonville Florida. Captain Bill's sense of humor, people skills, combined with his professional knowledge and experience as a Captain and fishing guide made this trip/experience a great success and one we will always cherish. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a down-to-earth Captain that is fun an a expert in his craft.

We had a great time with captain frank. Due to the storms that rolled in weeks prior to our trip and a nor' easter, we had to make due with the areas we had available to fish. The booking process was very easy and we enjoyed our time on the water.

Our 6-hour in-shore fishing trip with Captain Billy was such a great time! He's definitely done his fair share of charters and we were lucky enough to catch quite a few fish. He followed all sizing restrictions and made sure we were on fish at every spot we went to. After, he showed us the proper way to clean fish. We will most definitely do another charter with him in the future.
