trip description for Saltwater Backcountry Sight Fishing the Flats in Allenhurst

You will be sight fishing from the bow of a flats skiff in the Mosquito Lagoon or Indian River Lagoon. Despite the scary name, mosquitoes are not a problem on the water. With clear skies and clean water, you can see fish within casting distance. In addition, we look for tails, fins, and wakes from single fish, groups or schools. Year round targets include redfish (red drum), spotted seatrout, and black drum. Seasonal catches may include tarpon and snook. Your captain has nearly 20 years of guiding experience specializing in sight fishing these waters. This fishing can be done by people of all skill levels but is best suited for adults and those with prior casting experience. For trips with kids and less experienced anglers, look for my "Daytona Beach/New Smyrna Easy Catching Trip". You may request spinning tackle or fly fishing. Capt. Chris is a certified fly casting instructor with the FFI for those wanting to improve their cast. Top quality tackle is provided with your trip. Anglers bring their own food and drink. Sight fishing trips are usually started at first light unless otherwise dictated by weather or other factors discussed in advance. All trips are catch, photo, release only. Read More

The Indian River (originally name the "Rio de Ais") is a 156 mile long brackish waterway with an average depth of 4ft and widths varying from 0.5 to 5 miles. Heavily lined with mangrove forests, sandy islands and hidden oyster beds makes it one of the most unique fishing experiences out there. Our favorite species to target are Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, Trout and Snapper. Starting at sunrise we'll head across the flats and into the backcountry. Using light tackle and/or fly rods we'll check all the nooks looking for the larger predator species feeding in the early morning like Tarpon. As the sun rises we will work our way to the flats and sight fish reds, snook, and trout. Every trip is different and we'll find what's running and what they're hitting. It's always an adventure. trip description for New Smyrna Beach & Daytona Beach Tarpon Fishing in Edgewater

We are in full blown tarpon season now!! Book now for the fight of a life with the most powerful saltwater light tackle gamefish on earth! The tarpon, Atlantic tarpon or also called the silver king are one of the number one targeted sport fish on the earth. These fish are some of the best fighting fish anglers have come across with using light tackle. Central Florida offers a wide selection of two different tarpon fishing charters in the area and this is the closest tarpon fishing near Orlando you will find. We target big tarpon here throughout the warmer months in the spring through the fall along the beaches, just outside the inlets. The backcountry tarpon fishing is done on the Mosquito Lagoon Indian River year round on the flats in New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ponce Inlet, Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. Typically April through November, with May, June, July, August, September and October being prime time for big beach, nearshore and backcountry tarpon. However the smaller tarpon can be found throughout the area year round in the far backcountry waters of the Indian River, Banana River, Sebastian Inlet and the Mosquito Lagoon. These fish range around 5 to 20 pounds, which are perfect for light tackle applications of both spin and fly. Along the beaches on the nearshore fishing trips is where you will find the 100 plus pound tarpon. These begin showing up in April and is in full force all summer long. On these charters we also have a chance to catch several other fish as well, just not tarpon. Snook and redfish are in the same areas. Read More

Five stars warranted. Skilled and personable captain with nice boat and gear, plus the requisite “local knowledge.” Did a half day with trip tailored by the captain to match our specific inshore interests and to maximize fishing time. Had continuous action, and it was fun to see my daughter catch a nice mixed bag of fish species she hadn’t seen. Highly recommend Captain Matt.
