They don't call it MAYport for no reason!
Fishing the last few weeks has been off the chain. From inshore to offshore there really isn't anything that isn't biting. Playing the tide weather has been determining the target!

Well it's super spring and it's black drum and speckled trout time. Fishing the St. Johns River and St. Johns River inlet jetty rocks. It's high tide to pull the hardware planers and spoons for a lot of Spanish mackerel which is always good for dads and kids.

The last week was challenging yet rewarding. While there were not any “gimmie” days with a lot of effort and some brain power we ended up putting some nice boxes of fish together with a pile of trophy black drum up to 50 pounds.
Even saw our first kingfish and Mahi of the year. I expect summer fishing to come early after next weeks blow. Meaning kings, cobia and plenty of other tasty critters.

rod I don’t expect to see full fish boxes of great eating.
Spanish mackerel should be showing any day providing great action for kids and family trips. But also a great fall back if the sheepshead trout or redfish are uncooperative.
Skiff trips have been heating up as well focused around the low tide as usual. Redfish bite was very very slow a week or so ago but is recovering nicely.

Weather permitting the bottom fishing has been good seabass, triggerfish, beeliners and the cobia are starting to show up. Pogies are on the beach so the kingfish should show up soon. Inshore hfishing for reds, trout, sheepshead and black drum is good too.

Spanish mackerel have arrived and they are the spring marker
my bird feeder is covered up with Robin Red breasts migrating North.
there’s plenty of action at the inlet even had our first encounter with 100 lb black tip shark behind the boat
there’s plenty of action for everyone no matter your skill level
a very short boat ride to the inlet on a calm wind day could see everything from Big whiting bull redfish black drum Spanish mackerel bluefish and even sharks already

Bite continues to heat up with climbing water temps. Flounder bite has been pretty consistent with decent fish in the 2-3lb range. Some triple tails are showing up in the river. Big, oversized redfish and some larger black drum have also been showing up regularly in good numbers.

With water temps back up into the 60's fish are turning in the feed bag once again . Finding big schools of redfish in the intracoastal waterway that can be targeted with both artificial and live bait . Black drum are showing up in good number with some being over 20 lbs . Trout are still feeding well on the tops and bottoms of the tide . Sheepshead have been a good bet around structure and jetties as well.

The fishing has been good nice seabass, beeliners and some nice triggerfish. Even had a nice 28 inch gag grouper and of course they are closed right now. Weather just won't cooperate for much offshore fishing right now. Made a couple of trips recently and one was real good the other got shortened due to 3 cases of the sea flu.

Week of 1/15 has been a great one. Lots of black seabass and ringtail porgies on the 4 hour trips. Recently the shallow triggers and beeliners haven't been cooperating but nothing to be mad about as Black Sea bass offer world class eating!
For the 6/8 hour offshore trips cobia fishing was world class with one 6 hour trip boasting double digit fish including a tagged 30+ pounder. The fish was originally caught in South Carolina at 32" overall in 2019 and recaptured 1200 days and nearly 300 miles away at 42" fork length.

Inshore the fish have been steady
with some days better than others. On the low tide mid day trips sightfishing has been the name of the game. With a low tide in the morning targeting holes has been the money.
Winter fishing is in full swing! Let's goooo fishin!

Ron, made light of some difficult fishing conditions to ensure that i went home with a huge smile on my face after a really decent haul of a great variety of fish. He was flexible, charming and a delight to spend a day with - a day i shall treasure for some time to come.
