They don't call it MAYport for no reason!
Fishing the last few weeks has been off the chain. From inshore to offshore there really isn't anything that isn't biting. Playing the tide weather has been determining the target!

Well it's super spring and it's black drum and speckled trout time. Fishing the St. Johns River and St. Johns River inlet jetty rocks. It's high tide to pull the hardware planers and spoons for a lot of Spanish mackerel which is always good for dads and kids.

The last week was challenging yet rewarding. While there were not any “gimmie” days with a lot of effort and some brain power we ended up putting some nice boxes of fish together with a pile of trophy black drum up to 50 pounds.
Even saw our first kingfish and Mahi of the year. I expect summer fishing to come early after next weeks blow. Meaning kings, cobia and plenty of other tasty critters.

While inshore has been booking hot, day by day I can feel it getting less quality bites and more “junk fish” while great to bend a
rod I don’t expect to see full fish boxes of great eating.
Spanish mackerel should be showing any day providing great action for kids and family trips. But also a great fall back if the sheepshead trout or redfish are uncooperative.
Skiff trips have been heating up as well focused around the low tide as usual. Redfish bite was very very slow a week or so ago but is recovering nicely.

Weather permitting the bottom fishing has been good seabass, triggerfish, beeliners and the cobia are starting to show up. Pogies are on the beach so the kingfish should show up soon. Inshore hfishing for reds, trout, sheepshead and black drum is good too.

The fishing has been good nice seabass, beeliners and some nice triggerfish. Even had a nice 28 inch gag grouper and of course they are closed right now. Weather just won't cooperate for much offshore fishing right now. Made a couple of trips recently and one was real good the other got shortened due to 3 cases of the sea flu.

Week of 1/15 has been a great one. Lots of black seabass and ringtail porgies on the 4 hour trips. Recently the shallow triggers and beeliners haven't been cooperating but nothing to be mad about as Black Sea bass offer world class eating!
For the 6/8 hour offshore trips cobia fishing was world class with one 6 hour trip boasting double digit fish including a tagged 30+ pounder. The fish was originally caught in South Carolina at 32" overall in 2019 and recaptured 1200 days and nearly 300 miles away at 42" fork length.

Inshore the fish have been steady
with some days better than others. On the low tide mid day trips sightfishing has been the name of the game. With a low tide in the morning targeting holes has been the money.
Winter fishing is in full swing! Let's goooo fishin!

ey guys. Well, 2022 is in the books and 2023 is starting off pretty good. It has warmed back up since Christmas but the reds are still chewing. You can find them in the creek holes still but if you're looking to get on a few upper slot fish the flats are the place to be. They are schooled up nicely and the water is clear. As long as the wind isn't blowing too hard you can get up on them fairly easy.

The flounder bite has been better but you can still pick a few here and there in
the creeks and around the oysters.
Sheepshead and black drum are holding good in the creeks and the trout are holding in the creek holes and creek mouths at lower tides. Mud minnows have been the bait of choice for most but shrimp will be your go to for the sheep's and drum.

Inshore fishing has been awesome in the skiff. With cooling water fish have been stacked up in their usual winter time haunts. Black drum now moving with the schools of reds too for some bonus catches. Offshore black seabass fishing is off the chain on the short 4/6 hour trips. Mixed with vermillion snapper and triggerfish. On the extended 10/12 hour trips trigger fish is the name of the game for meat haul. If the goal is hero or 0 lots of big wahoos have been hitting the deck with the cold weather. I cannot recommend Captain Dan highly enough. We booked him to take us out on the water to spread my mom and dad's ashes, and he made a very emotional day so much easier. He had absolutely everything we needed ready to go. His communication was outstanding leading up to the trip, during the day, and even checking in afterward. He took incredibly good care of our family and provided amazing support throughout the entire experience. To top it all off, he took some fantastic photos that we will cherish forever. Thank you, Captain Dan, for your professionalism and kindness!

Trip: Spreading Ashes In Saint Augstine

We had a wonderful trip with Captain Dan to lay my mother’s ashes to rest. Dan was very respectful, explained exactly what would happen and made sure the experience would be a beautiful memory for us. I’ll never forget the sight of the flower petals on the water and the dolphins in the background. Dan worked with our schedule to find a new time when the weather didn’t cooperate on our original date. He was very responsive and easy to communicate with. Thank you Dan!
