On the last day of summer, I've got some pretty good news from the water.
The river looks good. There's bait everywhere, we're seeing a lot of fish, and tonight at midnight SNOOK SEASON OPENS!
Anybody looking to eat a fresh Snook dinner?
Well, you've either got to catch one yourself… or know somebody who does. Snook aren't something you're going to walk into the grocery store and buy.

Well, you've either got to catch one yourself… or know somebody who does. Snook aren't something you're going to walk into the grocery store and buy.
Here in the Indian River Lagoon region, recreational Snook harvest opens September 1 and runs through December 14. You can keep one Snook per person, per day, and it has to measure at least 28 inches and no more than 32 inches total length.
Anything smaller or bigger goes back to fight another day.
And remember — that 35-inch monster might make a great picture, but she doesn't make dinner. 📸🎣
🐟 ONE OF MY FAVORITE WAYS TO CATCH SNOOK
Live mullet. I love fishing a live mullet along a seawall during an incoming tide or during the first hour or two of the outgoing tide.
I'll usually throw the cast net and catch a few, then keep them alive in my livewell. A five-gallon bucket with a lid and bubbler works too... And trust me on the lid.
Mullet have an impressive ability to discover freedom the second you're not looking. 😂
Make sure you're fishing stout tackle with a strong leader. A good Snook isn't going to politely swim toward the boat. She's going to smoke the drag and head straight for the nearest dock piling, seawall, mangrove root or underwater obstruction.

We've been catching Sailfish: some trips with multiple releases. Mahi and Kingfish are biting. The current has been ripping. Snapper fishing has been tough the last couple of trips.

2 kings and 2 barracuda today slow day overall

We are catching a few mahi and getting shots at Sailfish on most trips. We are catching various snappers. Still a game trying to stay away from bonitos. The action offshore has been good.

The action has been good. We are catching mahi Sailfish and black fin tuna. The fisher and different spots every day the running gun technique has been working the best.
