What's going on anglers! The beginning of March Beach bite has been relatively slow, we're mostly picking away at smaller whiting and more fish like jacks and ladyfish out of the surf. This is a promising sign of spring bait showing up as we transition into the spring weather pattern. Daylight savings will change the fish activity minutely, which helps us target fish from the surf earlier and later in the day.
With our conditions lately I have been staying busy fishing the river with mullet, in spring the fish that went deep out into the ICW or Ocean return to their tributaries to rest and spawn. Tarpon and snook will be moving into the rivers and will become a prominent target from land. Here is a slot snook & tarpon both caught on live mullet 2/0 circle hook and 30# leader. Tight lines!

What is going on people!!! Happy new year to everyone. Here on the beaches of Melbourne we've seen the beginning of our pompano run. Though the fish aren't here in numbers that doesn't mean you can't catch your limit, being at the right place on the right tide is extremely important if this is a goal of yours. We've been catching fish FAR out beyond 100 yards focusing on using live shrimp cut into pieces tipped with Fishgum and clams tied onto bare hooks with magic thread. I'm having most success with lighter leader so don't be afraid to size down if you're not getting bites and if it's dead, move. Tight lines everyone!

Surf fishing has been slow but productive unless you're after the toothy critters! We've been getting into whiting, and bluefish mostly but there are reports of pompano being caught here and there. Shark fishing has been as good as it gets for our area. The Trout family joined me for a night of shark fishing and they met their match with this Blacktip shark estimated around 70-80 pounds. Tight lines and good fishing!

Until the water cleans up for us, Pompano will be few and far between, however if you are feeling lucky like Jason was, you may get to catch a slot-sized Redfish out of the surf, which isn’t a very common catch for my area. Fishing is hot right now on the Central Florida coast! We are seeing waves of Pompano migrating through with the schools of Mackerel and Bluefish. The seaweed has subsided for the most part, this is the best it's been all year for surf fishing. Find yourself some clean water, a good sandbar and you'll be on your way for some quality fishing.
My go-to lure for Bluefish and Mackerel and Big Jacks in the surf. 1oz Gunslinger Jig by Beach Bum Lures.
Pompano Rig - Pompano Rich "Pompano Catchers" Surfari Series- Color coordinate your floats to the water conditions.
Bait of Choice - Live sandfleas or shrimp cut into small pieces tipped with FishGum.
Tight Lines and Good fishing!
