March has roared in like a lion with spring winds followed by a spectacular calm day or two for sight casting with a fly rod or spinning tackle. Windy days have been good on wind blown shorelines for Redfish on jigs and topwaters with the occasional trophy class Speckled Trout. The color change bite remains strong for school-sized Specks. Find the bait and you find the trout. The calm days have been spent on the skiff with shrimp pattern flies or fluke style baits presented for the taking. Redfish aplenty along with some tremendous trout showing us their back sides!...

The bay fishing has remained decent throughout the past week. Sheepshead are still thick at the jetties if the weather permits. Catching speckled trout all over the bay on soft plastics and live shrimp under corks. Try to find some deeper water near a transition into a shallower drop off. Fish are moving up and down these water depth changes. Redfishing has been better in the afternoon. Once the wind picks up the bite heats up as well. Expect it to be a busy spring break for fishing.

With the passing of what hopefully will be the last big cold front of the year, fishing has warmed back up along with the weather. Yesterday was speckled trout on spinning tackle with a nice family from Minnesota. Today was fly fishing on my Maverick's gift for redfish and trophy trout. We have a SpaceX launch scheduled for Friday, which should be outstanding as the weather looks good through the middle of next week at least. Time for a geographical cure; come see me in South Padre Island!

The bay fishing is starting to get interesting. Lots of sheepshead moving along the rocks at the jetties. Just need calmer weather to go get after them. Some bull reds are showing up there also. As the water temperature warms up after the cold weather we had last week expect the bite to only heat up as well. Speckled trout and redfish will move out deeper water in search of warmer temperatures and begin feeding on prey as it moves out shallower. Schools of black drum will also be easy targets once warmer water temperatures rise.

A steady school of sheepshead and redfish have been biting out by the jetties. We are catching limits of beautiful size sheepshead and chasing schools of big ole' bull redfish. I'm finding schools of fish using Garmin live scope. Live shrimp dropped into their face and you've got a bite! I am crushing the big sheep head. They finally showed up an SPID give me a call if you wanna go catching not fishing.

The past week has been a decent one. Catching both speckled trout and redfish on soft plastics. Actually limited on speckled trout on every am trip last week on soft plastics. Larger swim baits have been my go too. Darker and natural mullet colors are both producing strikes. The tides are extremely low in the morning and fluxing in hard towards the afternoon. Catching redfish on the windier days especially in the afternoon as the tides push in. Schools of black drum are popping up in deeper water transitions. Winter time fishing has been solid throughout the south Padre Island area. Snook and large trout remain plentiful in the Brownsville ship channel. Many of my trips have been with less experienced anglers and we have been focusing on speckled trout in deeper water with great success. The wonderful thing about being this far south is that "winter "means the temperature dropped into the 60s with highs near 80s during the day.
