After our last blast of north winds came through fishing slowed a little. But water temps are climbing back up to the low 70's and rising. Fish moved around quite a bit but we are still on them. The reds are biting on mullet and skipjack in gaswell. But you need to be very patient. Keeper Trout are hanging around the edges of the channel and very hungry. The black drum are in channel as well but they are random at best.
The spring warm up is coming, reds are going to get crazy soon. And some of the trout...

The spring warm up is coming, reds are going to get crazy soon. And some of the trout I've caught already have eggs in them for spawning season. If everything falls together right, should be an awesome spring season!
Captain Mike's South Padre Fishing Report 3/20/26. The bay fishing has remained solid. Catching some heavy speckled trout on soft plastics in deeper water. Redfish are active once the wind kicks up. Catching reds on soft plastics and fresh cut mullet out on the grass flats. The windier conditions have led to some memorable fishing trips with larger plastics. Fish are moving around a lot and a productive area may not be hot on consecutive days. Find some bait activity and the gamefish will be nearby. Black drum are schooled up if you want to target those wormy fish. All...

Captain Mikes South Padre Fishing Report 3/2/26. The bay fishing has remained decent to good through out the past couple of weeks. Catching solid redfish and speckled trout on soft plastics. Fresh cut bait and plastic lures are working good on the redfish out on the grass flats once the wind picks up. Actually been very windy and warmer weather recently and that combination has led to some outstanding redfish trips. Speckled trout are hanging deeper drop offs and working shallower as the heat of the day warms up. Everyone is catching black drum if you want to target them....

There are some large schools working the same old hangouts for them. I expect the bite to remain productive throughout the next month.
