Things are warming up here at Wrightsville beach and wilmingtonmaria. Some spring bluefish have arrived but still catching a mixed bag of speckle drought and flounder. Anglers can expect the arrival of the Atlantic Bonita to come storming on to our beach fronts. Allowing anglers a nice spring kickoff to have their string pulled and their drag Squealed. The spanish mackerel should be right behind them. All insurance fishing should improve greatly in the next couple weeks with rising water temperatures.

Hybrid Striped Bass
We ended the year with three great trips! We went out and spot locked over some wrecks and did well with tautog. Green crabs were the go to bait, but clams caught too. When running back inside, we spotted some birds and cruised in close to see what all the fuss was about. Turned out to be striped bass (finally!). So, we dropped jigs down and had a blast catching and releasing stripers up to 40". We kept a few for the table as well. The first two trips were mostly about the stripers. The final trip was all tog. The weather has been unbelievable, and unseasonably warm. If it stays like this we could fish right through the winter.

Nice sized spex,(6.03 lbs largest, striper too this week. Bottom fishing good too with grouper and snapper!
Weather real chilly, but light winds making a great day for fishing Lake Texoma . Very few Guides out but I have been busy catching stripers trolling. I make my own jigs and vivid colors, yellow, white; order the frames which hold 9 jigs and catching multiple fish and big fish. My business catching on even during winter and Christmas, and booked some 3 or 4 trips per week . If trolling don’t work I carry plenty live bait just in case. When I find fish I remain in same area for awhile and then they move on and I chase them again.

September and October were fabulous months out there. We had a very hot tarpon bite on the St. Johns River. We also had fair action on spotted seatrout, sandtrout and mangrove snapper. We caught a hand full of redfish and black bass in the brackish waters and we caught a couple of Bull Reds as well. Hurricane Ian wasn't severe in Jacksonville but we got a significant amount of rain which muddied the St. Johns River and slowed things down. The water should be cleared up any day now. As temperatures drop, I am expecting the snook to turn on in some of the river tributaries and redfish and spotted seatrout action should take off in the ICW. Sometimes the juvenile tarpon fishing can be good as well the water first cools.

Hey Hannah, the redfish bite is still steady. With the flood tides target grass lines with a popping cork and a live mullet or shrimp on a 1/0 circle hook. For the bull reds target the inlets with either live mullet, blue crab or cut bait on a 3/0 hook with minimal weight. Slack tides will produce the best fishing. Flounder, same ole story. Target creek mouths, bends and sandbars. The snook bite is the best it's been in a couple of weeks. Target most of the same area's as the smaller refs and flounder with live shrimp or finger mullet on a 1/0 to a 3/0 hook with a split shot or under a popping cork.
In the St. John's River the everything is still keyed in on shrimp as they thin out. Use a slip cork rig with a 1/0 to 3/0 hook and pitch up close to natural shoreline and hold on. You can expect to catch everything from largemouth, striped bass, red fish and catfish. Currently we are experiencing higher than usual flood tides so the fishing is tough but once you find them the bite is pretty good.

July 2022 has had its ups and downs, sound like....fishing? The heat has been like any other, in July, hot and dry. Don't plan on a limit of fish, as if you got 20 plus fish you had a good day. Someone will always argue with me but the majority had tough days, plenty big fish, but a limit takes lot of patience. I have had good days and tough days but still love my customers as they all know the up and downs. Most enjoy being on the water more than catching a limit! I have used trolling when bait was not working; and bait when trolling was not working. I am using slabs, Arigs, whatever they will hit, bite.
