Kayak Fishing With Captain Troy

Best fishing day ever! We told Captain Troy we were serious about getting "keeper" fish to eat, and he did not disappoint. A full 12-hour trip into the Atlantic got us 46 delicious keepers (variety of snapper species, Jacks, Cobia, trigger fish, and more) with plenty of non-stop action, thanks ...Read More to Troy's laser-focus on the fish. He provided good coaching on the best methods to drop our lines and haul up the bounty. He kept the boat on top of fish continuously, and had us haul up our lines as the boat drifted off so he could reposition the boat back over the fish. We literally spent no time at all just hanging out waiting for bites in an empty ocean. He knows some good spots; for the most part we were the only boat on the water as far as the eye could see; we only noticed a couple of other boats wander over toward us in one location. Action also included fighting with one or two giant groupers (line snapped off before we could get them to the boat) and a couple of small sharks. It got exciting when we had to quickly haul in a snapper to save it from the jaws of an impressive 6-foot hammerhead. Overall an exciting, successful, exhausting day on the water from sunup to sundown. Enjoyed grilled Cobia and Jack kabobs for dinner that evening.

I don’t usually do reviews but Captain Troy deserves it! If your debating on booking, just do it!!! Awesome boat, top notch equipment and a super knowledgeable nice captain makes for a great charter!!!

Yesterday, we spent nearly 10 hours with Captain Troy on his fishing boat. There were nine of us, all family, and we had a great time. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect, Captain Troy did all he could in his power to see that we all caught some ...Read More fish. Many of our family had never taken a fishing excursion this far out in the Atlantic, Captain Troy made the trip worth while. A bonus for us came when we saw a huge giant sea turtle, dolphins came with a few feet of the boat, and a couple barracudas wanted to share our bait. If you are looking for a family experience on a fishing boat in the St. Augustine area, I do not thing you could find a Captain with better fishing equipment or personality.

Captain Troy has been one of the more enjoyable guides I’ve had the pleasure to spend hours on the water with. He met us at the ramp on time, took us to catch bait where we caught tons of live cigar minnows and a few pin fish. Fish ...Read More were a little tough on the bite but Captain Troy no novice to uncharted waters taking is to spots that many other anglers probably weren’t familiar with as their were no boats. We were a good ways offshore targeting big fish and good quality eating fish as I did day we wanted something good to eat. We caught a couple sea bass that were delicious. Tons of Red snapper although not in season I would recommend booking a trip if you got the chance as Captain Troy knows where to find the big ones. The seas were right and Captain Troy made it all the more comfortable with his navigation skills. All of his gear is top notch and well maintained to avoid any loss hookups. Book was nice and clean and plenty of ice for our catch. Obviously the 55 inch Mahi we got was the kicker to our day. But having a good guide makes a trip the best and we will plan our trips in advance with Captain Troy to assure another great day on the water!!!
