In fishing, the term "weedless" refers to lures and hooks that are designed to avoid getting snagged or caught on underwater plants, roots, or other structures. This is particularly important in inshore fishing where lures might be dragged through areas with dense vegetation or underwater obstacles. Weedless lures and hooks are rigged to either have a gap between the hook and the lure or to use a weed guard that protects the hook from getting caught.
