Guided by Rick Murdoch
Captain Rick first two priorities on every trip he runs are your safety and enjoyment when you are out on the water with him. He wants your trip to be as fun and comfortable as possible, so you and your friends will come back to catch more next time! He has an incredible knack for fish habits as he has been fishing for over 50 years and has been running guided trips for 30 years. If you're feeling like catching some shrimp too, he can set up a trawl similar to commercial boats. As one of the most experienced and friendliest guides in the area, he'll make sure you make some memorable catches.
Come aboard with Captain Rick for a quick action-packed adventure off Alabama's beautiful Gulf coast! The inshore and nearshore waters off the coast of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are the perfect place to chase after a slew of prized fighting and eating fish without spending your whole day out on the water! On these 2-4 hour trips, your trip will start with a warm greeting from Captain Rick at the Fort Morgan Marina, a short safety on the water talk, followed by an explanation of the day's plans. Captain Rick will always answer any questions and point out points of interest you will see along the way as you motor out to the best fishing spots. There are always dolphins playing and feeding just outside of the marina, and giant oil rigs are close by. There will be crab traps and shrimp boats and huge cargo and Navy ships coming and going from Mobile, just 30 miles north of Mobile Bay. You'll be fishing aboard a 24' Kenner with a capacity for 6 people. Powered by a 150 HP Yomaha engine, she'll have no problem getting you to where the fish are biting. As the proud owner of a 24' Kenner, Captain Rick has mastered navigating his boat with a fully remote controlled trolling motor that is capable of holding any position required without any anchors. One of the recent additions to his boat is a New High Tech Side San Sonar that is able to see fish from 150 ft on either side of the boat. She has a VHF radio for coast guard and boat-to-boat communications. Whether you end up chasing Reds and Trout inshore or poking it a little further out to target Spanish Macks, Kings, and sharks, Captain Rick will always clean and fillet your catch for you when you get back to the dock. Captain Rick will tell you all about it while he makes slight work filleting your catch, but you can have your fresh catch cooked 3 ways right there at Tacky Jacks, it's delicious and as fresh as it gets. Captain Rick will provide all rods, reels, tackle, live bait, and fishing know how to ensure you have a succesfull day out on the water. All he recommends you bring are your sunglasses, sunscreen, and any snacks or drinks you might need. Captain Rick will do the rest! Bring along all of your family and friends with all various degrees of fishing experience for a trip that you'll be talking about for years to come! You can catch the Dauphin Island-Fort Morgan ferry every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Please visit https://mobilebayferry.com/schedule/ for the daily schedule and pricing. Trip was ok, Our captain was great, but we had to take the first half hour of our trip and get bait, thought that would have already been on the boat and ready to go. Thought we would catch more fish, only caught 2 fish. Really only fished for about an hour maybe an hour and a half of the 4 hour trip we booked a lot of driving around looking for fish, thought for the price of it they would have spots where they have success at. also they didn't take us to try and catch fish we wanted to fish for. …
Went with Captain Rick on a 3 hour trip. Was very helpful and patient with us novice anglers and my 12 yr old first time deep sea fishing. Overall great experience with catching 6 Mackerel. Thanks for a great trip Rick!
Rick was great and we caught plenty of great eating fish. Can’t wait to go again next year.
He was very patient with my 9yr son and put us on the fish no problem. Definitely had an amazing time on the water. Great captain with an excellent experience.
Had a 2 hour fishing trip booked, and the weather was not promising due to high winds. Captain Rick did an excellent job positioning the boat, staying determined, checking all his spots and eventually got us on some fish. He was very kind and helpful with my daughter and she was able to land her first saltwater fish and several more. Would definitely book again! …
We went out at 6 am. Captain helped the boys fish. We had a great 4 hours of fishing. We caught lots of fish. And got to see lots of dolphins as a bonus. Captain cleaned and fillet our catch so we could take it to Tacky Jacks. They prepared our catch for lunch. Great trip, lots of Memories made! …
It was amazing!!! Captain Rick was so patient with us and the kids. We had a blast an will differently be coming back! After our trip was over heading back he stopped and let the kids watch the dolphins swim. Every fish we caught if it was different he would explain it to us and the kids!! …
What a terrific captain and master fisherman. Although Patty and I are experienced fishermen in the bay, we learned much about the Bay and the fish. And, yes we caught fish, Reds and speckled trout. Rick is a southern gentleman, always patient and quick to help us have a successful day. Don’t hesitate to book him for an outing. …
