About Your Guide

Cooper Anderson

Outfitter
Cooper, Katie, and Mark make up a passionate team of fly fishing guides dedicated to sharing the waters of the Vail Valley with anglers of all ages and experience levels. Rather than focusing on selling gear or making unnecessary stops, their approach is centered entirely around guiding, teaching, and maximizing your time on the water.

Cooper was born and raised in Vail and has spent more than 40 years fishing the surrounding rivers and creeks. He grew up fly fishing alongside his dad and brothers, building an intimate knowledge of the local waters that only comes from a lifetime of experience. Pair that with a patient teaching style, and Cooper is just as comfortable introducing someone to their first cast as he is helping an experienced angler refine their approach. His love of fly fishing has also taken him around the world in pursuit of bonefish, tarpon, snook, bass, pike, carp, salmon, and more.

Katie is one of Vail's veteran fly fishing guides, with more than 15 years of guiding experience and a lifelong background in outdoor instruction. Before becoming...

Before becoming
a fishing guide, she worked as a raft guide, video kayaker, rock climbing instructor, and high ropes instructor. She's an enthusiastic and patient teacher who particularly enjoys introducing kids and families to the sport. Katie is also a certified USCG Captain and EMT, and her passion for fly fishing has taken her from Colorado's trout streams to an invite-only women's tarpon fly fishing tournament in the Florida Keys.

Mark, better known as "Wex," brings nearly two decades of guiding experience on the Eagle River. After countless days on the river, he's developed a deep understanding of the local trout and a keen ability to recognize what they're feeding on. Patient, friendly, and happiest with a line in the water, Mark brings that enthusiasm to every trip he guides.

Together, the crew combines decades of local knowledge with patient, hands-on instruction and a genuine love for fly fishing. Whether it's your first time holding a fly rod or another day in a lifetime spent chasing trout, they'll tailor the experience to your ability and help make your time on the river count.

About Your Trip

Experience the trout-filled waters of Colorado's Vail Valley with a team of local guides who are passionate about making fly fishing approachable, exciting, and memorable for anglers of all experience levels.

Choose between a 4-hour half-day or 6-hour full-day wade fishing trip, with options for groups of one to three anglers. Beginners and first-timers can learn the fundamentals of casting, presentation, reading the water, and fighting fish, while experienced fly anglers can work with their
guide to dial in techniques and make the most of current river conditions.

Everything you need to fish is provided, including rods, reels, flies, line, nets, boots, and waterproof waders, so there's no need to make a stop for equipment before hitting the river. Water and light snacks are provided as well.

The 4-hour trip is the most popular option and offers plenty of time to learn the ropes, catch some fish, and enjoy the scenery while still leaving part of your day open to explore Vail.

For anglers who can't get enough time on the water, the 6-hour trip lets you settle into a full day of fishing and spend more time exploring productive stretches of river. You'll take a lunch break along the way and can either bring your own meal or add a gourmet riverside lunch for an additional $45 per person.

These mountain rivers are largely fed by snowmelt, so the water can stay cold even on beautiful summer days. Warm socks and comfortable layers are recommended beneath your provided waders. Depending on the weather, a fleece or raincoat is also a good idea. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.

Whether you're introducing the kids to their first trout, learning to fly fish yourself, or looking to spend a full day chasing fish in the Colorado mountains, your guide will tailor the experience to your group and help you make the most of your time on the water.
