About Your Trip
Climb aboard with Captain Bob for a laid-back, fun-filled day of fishing on the scenic waters of Belews Lake in North Carolina. Whether you're looking to target bass, crappie, or catfish—or try your hand at fly fishing—Captain Bob is ready to tailor the experience to your preferences and skill level, making this a perfect outing for families, beginners, and seasoned anglers alike.
Each standard charter runs for approximately five hours and departs from one of
the public or private boat launches around the lake. Captain Bob provides all the fishing equipment, bait, and tackle you'll need. Depending on the species you're after and the time of year, your day might include casting with lures, slow trolling through deeper pockets, or using live bait to tempt those big ones out of hiding. Common targets include Largemouth and Spotted Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, White Perch, and Catfish, but Captain Bob is happy to adjust based on what you're hoping to catch.
For anglers looking to refine their technique—or pick up a fly rod for the first time—Captain Bob also offers dedicated fly fishing trips, limited to two anglers per charter for personalized instruction and attention. These trips are best booked between April and September when conditions are ideal, and you'll get hands-on guidance in casting, knot tying, and fish handling. Experienced fly anglers are more than welcome and can expect to explore productive waters with the help of Captain Bob’s local knowledge.
No matter which trip you choose, you'll be fishing from a well-equipped 21' Nautic Star center console, powered by a reliable Yamaha 150 HP four-stroke outboard. With top-tier electronics including a Lowrance HOOK 7 fish finder and GPS, a Spot Lock trolling motor, and twin live wells, this setup is ready for action. There’s even a bimini top onboard for a bit of shade during those hot Carolina afternoons.
Safety is a top priority, and Captain Bob will conduct a full safety briefing before departure. He’ll also assist with netting fish, removing hooks, and showing you how to properly handle your catch for photos. Any fish not kept for the table will be released quickly and carefully, but if you’re looking to take a few home, Captain Bob will gladly fillet and bag your catch (tips appreciated). Just be sure any keepers meet North Carolina’s regulations for size and bag limits.
All you need to bring is a good attitude, lunch and drinks, sunscreen (no aerosol sprays, please), weather-appropriate clothing, a small cooler for your fish, and maybe a lucky hat—just leave the bananas at home! Polarized sunglasses and boat shoes are also highly recommended to keep you comfortable and ready to fish.
Whether you're after a mess of crappie for the fryer, a bass to brag about, or just some quality time on the water, Captain Bob is dedicated to giving you a memorable day of fishing on beautiful Belews Lake.
