I first started fishing in Wrightsville Beach when my Dad used to take me to Johnnie Mercer's pier when I was about seven years old. Back then it was made out of wood, and I still remember the feeling of walking down that pier and looking at the waves below through the gaps in the boards. I started fishing offshore as I got older on boats that belonged to good friends, and after a lot of growing up and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life, I finally got a boat of my own back in 2002. I got my license shortly thereafter and have been making my living on the water ever since. The most rewarding thing about being a charter captain is taking people offshore for their first time and seeing how excited they get when they reel in their first fish, and then reel in another one, and another one.

trip description for Half Day Spanish Mackerel in Wrightsville Beach

This is a good way to get a feel for your sea legs if you’ve never been offshore before, and it’s a great way to introduce young kids to fishing from a boat. Hop on the boat and it’s a short run to Masonboro Inlet, we’ll have lines in the water within 15 minutes of leaving the dock. We’ll troll for Spanish Mackerel anywhere from right on the beach to a mile or two offshore. On a good half day we can expect to catch well over twenty Spanish Mackerel. They are fun to catch and good to eat. I will clean your fish and bag the filets when we get back to the dock. Read More

trip description for 3/4 Day King Mackerel in Wrightsville Beach

We’ll be trolling from 7 to 12 miles offshore for King Mackerel, still within sight of land for the most part. There is a large area of hard bottom that holds bait in this area, and that is what attracts the larger predator fish. Sometimes we have to cover a lot of ground before we find a good bite, but that is the advantage of my style of trolling, we keep moving until we find the fish. This is what I recommend for folks who want to catch big fish without having to go a long way offshore or spend a long day on the boat. I will clean your fish and bag the filets when we get back to the dock. Read More

trip description for Full Day Offshore in Wrightsville Beach

We will usually run about 20 miles offshore to where the higher relief ledges and wrecks can stretch for miles. Big depth changes offshore usually mean more schools of bait and more predator fish chasing them. I like to maximize fishing time so we will usually start on the inshore edge of where the best action has been and work our way further offshore. King Mackerel are the majority of what we will catch, with Amberjack, Barracuda, Mahi and possibly a Sailfish mixing in. This trip is for those who love to be far out to sea for an extended period of time. I will clean your fish and bag the filets when we get back to the dock. Read More
