Hi, I’m Riley! I got into fly fishing around 2016 skiing up in Steamboat. I asked a local on the ski lift what he likes to do in the warmer months. Fly fishing became the main topic of discussion, so I flew home and did some research. I found that Austin is home to some of the most elite guides out there being Jt Van Zandt, Alvin Dedeaux, and David Mangum. I didn’t know Austin had so much appeal for that kind of thing. So, I started looking for spots to catch bass… which led me to buy a rod… which led to thousands of dollars being spent and 100s of hours spent on the river. No complaints! I just simply fell in love with the sport! I caught my first bass on the fly in my hometown and later got into carp on the fly. Carp on the fly was an extremely tough uphill battle, but finally caught one. Soon after that I began figuring out characteristics of these fish that led to tons of catches and gaining confidence...

Soon after that I began figuring out characteristics of these fish that led to tons of catches and gaining confidence for the salt water. Later I went on my first guided redfish trip, and almost had the texas slam that day. It changed me… for the better. All I wanted to do was get down there and guide on the salt. Well… not as easy as it may sound or look. Long story short, I got into the fire service hoping to get hired on with Corpus Christi to then get hours on a skiff to captain and later guide the salt full-time. Unfortunately I fell in love with the fire side and got hired with a local department in my area. So, the salty dream has slipped away for now… but maybe one day! As years progress I am hoping to be an elite fishing guide and instructor for carp on the fly on my local waters. There are many other options of fish species where I guide as well, but Carp are kinda my thing. I like to call them a poor mans redfish… they back, turn, feed, and tail in a very similar manner. So if you want to catch one of the hardest fish to land in the fresh water, then I am your guy. If you would like to get warmed up and gain confidence for redfish? I am your guy with that as well. I hope my story brings you out to the water and motivates you to go out and try to catch yourself some! Get SALTY! Cheers

What makes you different from other guides?
I offer fishing trips that are not very common, and I have a blast doing so. For me fly fishing is an intuitive hunt. It keeps us on our toes throughout the entire trip due to sight casting at feeders. I am not in a drift boat watching the bobber… I want to go find that fish and present him a meal without causing it to spook. It is not easy, and is incredibly hard to teach… UNLESS YOU ARE HUNGRY. Come and play!

Recent Fishing Reports

Early June 2023
Tide is high! The surf is up! And the clock always says beer:30!

Mid April 2023
Caught two Saturday..... mainly saw gar and carp. A few smallmouth buffalos. Not many hungry bass. But the carp are on right now and the clarity is super good. Flows seems around 60-120cfs and it gettin the mossy areas a breathe of fresh air. So wading looks like the move.

Late October 2022
Fishing conditions have gotten tough to say the least! But if you are patient and focused... some big ones can be caught. Water levels are looking pretty good at the moment in the rivers in my area. Tons of hydrilla built up in the middle of the streams causing fish to move in and out of freely as they please... so patience in these areas are needed. But, due to this the fish are extremely spooky once they come out of these weeds. Water clarity is second to none at the moment though, and it has been interesting to see the river bottoms in those deeper pools. You definitely want to move about the banks and rivers like "Yoda"... and hover if you can haha. But, by being sneaky, quiet, and precise with your casting can be a massive game changer that calls for post fishing reward beers!
