Captain Eric's life started in Broomfield, Colorado many moons ago. He explored the Rocky Mountains while hiking and snowboarding every chance he got, enjoying the mile high city of Denver before spending a few years in Boulder. Eventually the cold winters lost their appeal, and Captain Eric found a renewing warmth in Key West: He threw out those suits worn in Colorado offices and traded them in for wetsuits, and his cubicle and pushy boss were replaced with open water, sea turtles and schools of bottlenose dolphin. Captain Eric splashed in to a life on the water as a Divemaster with Captain’s Corner Dive Shop in 2007, and became a Captain for the same company in 2010. He bought his own boat, “Laid Back,” in the winter of 2011 and has been sharing his love for South Florida marine life on private charters ever since.

Ben our Captain did a nice job and put us on some fish. He was very nice and did a good job. The fishing rod and reels were very low budget however and for the first time I went on a trip when the Captain had no helper which made things at time a challenge. When you schedule a high end charter for 5 people the Captain should always have a helper.

I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed your time with Captain Ben and felt that he did a great job. For his 33-foot vessel, he operates the charters himself, so we’ll make sure that’s clearly noted in the trip details moving forward.

As for the equipment, the rods he currently uses are Van Staal and Twin Power setups. The gear gets regular use as part of the charter experience, so there is naturally some wear from being used frequently, but I really appreciate you sharing your feedback on the gear.
