Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?
Bluefin Tuna
If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
Usually a big fish fry or seafood boil👍🏻
What’s your favorite band?
Grateful Dead/ Allman Brothers are some definite favorites but I enjoy so many genres of music there’s no singular one or style to just pick one!
How did you get started guiding?
So it was the summer I was going into my freshman year of highschool. My best friends dad ran a commercial boat. Never had even been offshore before, but I was asked if I would be interested in going fishing offshore for a few days. It was the coolest. It was also by far my most memorable experience’s on the water. Since then I started working as a deck hand, and used the opportunities given to me after years of decking, to become a captain. The thing that drew me in and shaped me to this point in my career, was not the quantity of fish I saw us catch that summer trip, but the quality. Seeing fish bigger and more diverse in variety than I could have ever imagined. That is what started my path into guiding as a profession.
What makes you different from other guides?
Not sure! Lol. In my experience, anyone that does this profession has a deep connection to it. They also do their absolute best to make each trip as great as possible. There is something so fulfilling about taking people out. Whether it be that they are beginners, or people that have been going out with us for years, that is just the best feeling. Getting to spend time with many folks on the water. Catching fish and making memories. Sharing life experiences. Honesty can also make the biggest difference when communicating to guests about how to have a successful and memorable trip.

About Your Trip

When I was a young child, my grandpa Gene started taking us fishing. He provided an escape through fishing that brought me peace from a young age. With a consistent 20 years now in this industry, I chose to Charter guests because of the desire to recreate an experience that will hopefully provide them with the escape, peace and excitement that first drew me into fishing as well. We aim for honesty with our guests anytime there is interest, or the opportunity to take them out. Good weather contributes to a great catch. Communication is key, so let’s talk about what kind of catch you’re looking to achieve, to better understand what kind of charter you should book and why.

So let’s get into it!

The average trip on our charter can take 6-12 hours, depending on the time booked. When we travel off shore, depending on the length of the trip booked we will be traveling out a distance of 15-50 miles. This travel time to our destination varies on the length of the trip that is booked. When traveling many miles off shore to deep sea fish, it can take anywhere from one and a half, to three and a half hours to reach our destination.

While that may seem like a long time to some, rest assured that your travel time will be met with comfort and cleanliness. Our amenities include a full air-conditioned cabin, an inside dining area with wrap around seating, plus additional seating inside. There is also a clean, fully stocked restroom inside as well as 4 additional bunks. Coffee and music are also readily available upon request.

Now time to catch fish right? Depending on what species of fish are in season, we use many different techniques to target different species of fish. There will be a variety of cut bait and live bait used. For example, to catch Vermilion snapper we will use cutbait. While when we’re aiming to catch Red snapper, Red grouper, Gag grouper, or Scamp grouper we will use a variation of both live and cut bait.

Lastly, but also very important we have our First mate. Our first Mate will be assisting all guests with baiting their hooks, untangling lines, and will take off and release fish. He also will provide a knowledgeable experience for everyone on board with a wide variety of expertise on fishing techniques.
