I’m Captain Felipe, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to the stunning waters of historic Big Pine Key Florida, where settlers first made their mark back in 1870. Nestled in this charming, small key, you’ll find the famous Key Deer and a refuge dedicated to preserving their unique habitat.

My family’s journey to Big Pine Key began in Cuba, where they embarked on the American Dream, building our business from the ground up with grit and determination. These values have been passed down through generations, and we uphold them in everything we do here.

My path to becoming a captain was a delightful twist of fate. One day, while riding the bus, I overheard a conversation between two vacationers struggling to find a local fishing guide. Seizing the opportunity, I jumped in and offered them a fishing trip for just $100! Though I was just a local with a small flats boat, that outing turned out to be a huge success, and I soon became a Captain. I fished on that same boat until I could upgrade to our current...

I fished on that same boat until I could upgrade to our current
fleet.

Our fleet includes three fantastic boats: a 2023 33ft Power Catamaran with dual Suzuki 250 motors, a Parker 2023 with a single Yamaha 300 motor, and a 2024 Trifecta Tritoon with a single Mercury 150 motor. With a First Mate on all fishing trips (who also holds a captain’s license) and runs our sandbar excursions on the Tritoon, we ensure a top-notch experience. We meticulously manage our gear, bait, and maintenance, so you can focus on the thrill of landing the big catch or enjoying a day of non-stop fun.

With nearly a decade on these waters and countless fishing adventures across the Atlantic, Gulf, Pacific, Caribbean, and Arctic Seas, I’ve seen how guiding has changed over the years. We prioritize building lasting relationships with our guests. We stay in touch through holidays and ensure that long-distance travelers make it home safely. Many of our clients, both locals and tourists, return year after year because we treat them like family. Our top priority is safety and creating unforgettable experiences.

When I’m not out on the water, you might find me hiking, camping, or hunting in the mountains, tending to my homestead, or playing with my dogs—my German Wired Hair Pointer and our Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler. The mountains and sea are both my passions, and I feel incredibly lucky to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?
Aside from several countless HUGE Hammerheads, a 284lb Swordfish takes the crown as the biggest edible fish I have caught to date.
If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
Fried Yellowtail with yellow rice, black beans and a lot of key lime would be my specialty dish for my friends!
What’s your favorite band?
My favorite band is the Steeledrivers. Growing up in Fredrick, MD in the heart of the Appalachian mountains, my love for Bluegrass music began around age 7. I later then went on to play the fiddle myself.
What’s your favorite movie?
The answer is simple; The Patriot. Because I am one. I enlisted at age 18 into the U.S Army, where I served as a Combat Medic for 8 years.

What’s your favorite sports team?
Clemson Tigers, I am a Tiger myself, graduated in 2020. Please do not come yelling "Roll Tide" on my boat. You may be left out at sea.
What’s your drink of choice?
Old Fashioned, specifically a sweet Old Fashioned from just about any bar in Green Bay, WI.
What was your last halloween costume?
I dressed up as a Cowboy, I walked around my neighborhood with a revolver on my hip.
What do you want for Christmas this year?
An ATV, when I am not out on the water, I like to spend my time in the mountains.
How did you get started guiding?
I was a kid with a boat and I met a guy on a bus, who was talking to someone about fishing. He was telling his friend he wished he could go fishing while visiting Florida. I then but in to his conversation and told him I could take him fishing. I charged them $100 for 12 hours of fishing. I then went on and obtained my Captains license and as you can see, prices have gone up since then.
What makes you different from other guides?
How much I care. Not only do I care that everyone gets home safe and catches fish; but I truly care that people go home more knowledgeable and with memories to last a lifetime.
