Hey Ryan this is Attison with Captain Experiences. Our goal is to find the fish and give you the best chance of having a great trip. Sometimes that will be further out and sometimes it will be closer to shore. I’m sympathetic that the fish weren’t as enthusiastic as we might have hoped, but I do think there are a few things in this review that need clarification. First, Captain Rick uses new Trinidad gear,
not “30 year old rods”. You are correct that the boat has one engine - this is listed on the trip that you booked (1 370 horsepower Yanmar engine). Second, Captain Rick had to ask you on the boat not to make lewd comments to the female deckhand, and it appeared that you showed up intoxicated and continued to drink during the trip. Drinking in moderation is fine, but drinking to the point where you make a deckhand uncomfortable is unacceptable. Lastly, you reached the dock 15 minutes early on a 10 hour trip, and we refunded $100 off the price of the trip because of this (a 10% refunded for 2.5% of the trip time).
