About Your Trip
If you're looking to connect with the water in the most authentic way possible, a walk-and-wade fly fishing trip with Gordon and his team is the perfect experience. Based in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Highlands, NC, these guided trips offer a hands-on, deeply immersive way to explore the creeks, streams, and rivers that make western North Carolina a fly angler’s paradise.
Available as half-day or full-day trips, these excursions focus primarily
on Euro Nymphing—an advanced and highly productive technique that keeps you tight to your flies and in tune with every subtle take. This is an ideal approach for anglers who want to target trout in a variety of conditions, from tight mountain streams to wider, boulder-strewn rivers.
The waters you'll fish vary from small, rhododendron-choked creeks filled with wild native brook trout to larger, free-flowing rivers that are home to impressive wild brown trout. Gordon and his guides also have access to waters stocked with trophy-sized fish, increasing your chances of landing a true giant. While the team regularly guides on three primary rivers, they often tailor each trip based on water conditions, angler experience, and seasonal factors—so no two trips are exactly alike.
All trips are run with a maximum of three anglers per guide to ensure a high-quality, hands-on experience. Larger groups can be accommodated—up to 18 people total—with multiple guides. For a more personalized and instructional trip, a 2:1 client-to-guide ratio is recommended.
Trip includes:
- Fly rods, reels, leaders, tippet, and flies
- Customized guidance based on your experience and goals
- Access to diverse fisheries, from wild trout headwaters to stocked stretches
What you’ll need to bring:
- A valid North Carolina fishing license with a trout stamp
- Hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and a rain jacket
- Extra dry clothes and a camera to capture the moment
- A positive, adventurous attitude
Trip start times vary depending on the season, weather, and current fishing conditions. A guide or team member will be in touch before your trip to confirm meeting details and timing to ensure you're set up for the best day possible.
Whether you're new to fly fishing or a lifelong trout chaser looking to sharpen your skills, Gordon and his team offer a truly exceptional wade fishing experience—rooted in local knowledge, skilled instruction, and a deep respect for the mountain waters they call home.
