Whether you're casting from the shore or using a boat, Paragould’s fishing spots offer something for everyone.

Crowley's Ridge State Park features several small lakes and ponds that are ideal for fishing. These waters are known for their healthy populations of bass, crappie, and bluegill. The serene environment and well-maintained facilities make it a great spot for both casual fishing trips and more focused angling endeavors. Early spring and late fall are particularly productive times at these lakes, as fish are more active and feeding heavily.

The nearby Black River also presents excellent fishing opportunities, with its clear, flowing waters supporting species such as catfish, bass, and sunfish. The river’s varied habitats, including deeper pools and shallower riffles, provide different fishing conditions and challenges. Anglers can enjoy a day of fishing while exploring the river’s scenic surroundings, making it a popular choice for those looking to experience a mix of natural beauty and productive fishing. Overall, Paragould's fishing spots offer a diverse range of experiences, ensuring a rewarding time on the water.

What are the most popular months to go fishing in Paragould?

Fishing in Paragould, Arkansas, is enjoyable throughout the year, with each season bringing its own set of opportunities and challenges. Spring is a particularly exciting time for anglers, as the warming temperatures trigger increased fish activity. During this season, lakes and rivers around Paragould come alive with spawning fish. Species such as bass and crappie become more active, moving into shallower waters, which makes this an ideal time for fishing. Early spring offers excellent opportunities to catch these species as they prepare for the spawning season.

Summer in Paragould can bring warmer temperatures, which influences fish behavior. Many fish, such as bass and catfish, move to deeper, cooler areas of lakes and rivers to escape the heat. This means that early mornings and late evenings are often the best times to fish, as the cooler temperatures can lead to increased fish activity. Techniques such as using deep-diving crankbaits for bass or fishing with live bait for catfish can be particularly effective during the summer months.

As fall arrives, fishing conditions in Paragould improve once again. Cooler temperatures cause fish to become more active as they prepare for the winter months. This period is great for targeting species like bass and crappie, as they feed heavily in preparation for the colder weather. The fall also offers fewer crowds and beautiful scenery, making for a pleasant fishing experience. Overall, each season in Paragould provides unique fishing opportunities, with the changes in fish behavior and water conditions allowing for diverse and rewarding fishing experiences year-round.

What types of fishing are popular in Paragould?

Fishing in Paragould, Arkansas, offers a variety of techniques suited to the area's diverse water bodies. On lakes such as those in Crowley's Ridge State Park, bass fishing is particularly popular. Anglers often use techniques like casting with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or soft plastics to target largemouth and spotted bass. These lures are effective around structures such as submerged logs, rock piles, and vegetation where bass tend to hide. Additionally, techniques like flipping and pitching are used to present lures in tight spots, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

For those fishing in the Black River, different techniques come into play. Bottom fishing is a common method for targeting species like catfish, which are found in the river's deeper pools. Using weighted rigs with live bait such as worms or cut bait is effective for enticing catfish. Another technique, drift fishing, involves letting your bait drift naturally with the current, which can also be productive for catching various species in the river. Fly fishing can be effective here as well, particularly in the clearer sections of the river where anglers use flies that mimic local insects to attract fish.

In addition to these methods, crappie fishing is a popular pursuit in Paragould's lakes and rivers. Anglers often use small jigs or live minnows to catch crappie, especially during the spring and fall when these fish are more active. Techniques such as vertical jigging near submerged structures or trolling with a spread of jigs can be effective for finding and catching crappie. The variety of fishing techniques available in Paragould allows anglers to tailor their approach based on the specific water body and fish species they are targeting, ensuring a rewarding fishing experience.
