Everything to Know About Booking a Corpus Christi spanish mackerel fishing charter

What are the best spanish mackerel fishing charters in Corpus Christi?

What is spanish mackerel fishing in Corpus Christi all about?

Spanish mackerel are a popular species among anglers in Corpus Christi, known for their fast-paced action and tasty flesh. These sleek and voracious predators are commonly found in nearshore and offshore waters, particularly during the warmer months of spring and summer. Spanish mackerel are highly migratory, often traveling in schools along the Gulf Coast in search of baitfish such as mullet, menhaden, and anchovies. In Corpus Christi, Spanish mackerel can be found patrolling the waters near jetties, piers, artificial reefs, and bait-rich areas, making them accessible targets for anglers of all skill levels.

Anglers targeting Spanish mackerel in Corpus Christi often employ a variety of fishing techniques to entice strikes from these speedy fish. One popular method is trolling with small, brightly colored lures or spoons trailed behind a moving boat. This technique allows anglers to cover a large area of water and locate schools of feeding Spanish mackerel, particularly near structure or along current edges. Adjusting trolling speed and lure depth can help anglers mimic the movements of baitfish and increase their chances of success.

Another effective technique for targeting Spanish mackerel in Corpus Christi is casting and retrieving artificial lures. Anglers commonly use spoons, jigs, or plugs to imitate the erratic movements of baitfish, which can trigger aggressive strikes from Spanish mackerel. When casting to schooling fish or feeding frenzies, anglers should aim to land their lures in the midst of the action and retrieve them rapidly to mimic the frantic movements of fleeing baitfish. This technique can be particularly productive when Spanish mackerel are actively feeding near the surface or in shallow waters. Overall, Spanish mackerel provide anglers in Corpus Christi with thrilling fishing experiences and delicious table fare, making them a prized catch in the Gulf waters off the Texas coast.

What are the most popular months to fish for bonito fishing in Corpus Christi?

In Corpus Christi, the Spanish mackerel fishing season follows a predictable pattern influenced by various environmental factors such as water temperature, baitfish abundance, and migratory patterns. Generally, Spanish mackerel can be found in the waters off Corpus Christi year-round, but their presence and activity levels fluctuate throughout the seasons. Spring and summer are typically considered prime seasons for targeting Spanish mackerel in Corpus Christi. During these warmer months, Spanish mackerel migrate closer to the shore and are more abundant in nearshore waters. Warmer water temperatures attract schools of baitfish, such as mullet and menhaden, which in turn attract Spanish mackerel to the area.

Anglers targeting Spanish mackerel in Corpus Christi during the spring and summer months can expect to encounter large schools of these fast-moving fish near jetties, piers, artificial reefs, and bait-rich areas. These fish are often feeding voraciously, making them more susceptible to angler presentations. Trolling with small, brightly colored lures or spoons behind a moving boat is a popular technique during this season, allowing anglers to cover a large area of water and locate schools of feeding Spanish mackerel. Additionally, casting and retrieving artificial lures such as spoons, jigs, or plugs can be effective when targeting Spanish mackerel in shallow waters or near structure.

However, Spanish mackerel can still be found in Corpus Christi during the cooler months of fall and winter, albeit with potentially reduced activity levels. During these seasons, Spanish mackerel may migrate to deeper waters or follow baitfish migrations to warmer areas. Anglers interested in targeting Spanish mackerel during fall and winter may need to adjust their fishing techniques and locations accordingly to increase their chances of encountering these fast and agile fish. Overall, while Spanish mackerel fishing may be most productive during certain times of the year, anglers in Corpus Christi can find opportunities to target these prized gamefish throughout multiple seasons with the right strategies and knowledge of seasonal patterns.

The three of us went fishing with Captain Corey on Friday 9/19/25. Captain Corey is the most conscientious captain we have ever fished/caught with. He provided his fishing knowledge and guidance without overbearance. His knowledge comes from a lifetime of boating and fishing/catching in Texas. He knew exactly where to go for catching and what to do when we got there. There was no shortage of good quality bait on board and no skimping when and where it was needed. We caught about ten Red fish and kept six with one needing a tag. Captain Corey provided us with much comfort on the boat and he was very anxious to help everyone who wanted it. We had a comfortable boat ride which included slowing down for the wake of other boats. We will definitely be asking for Captain Corey again , either in Port A and /or Galveston.

Good job Corey! Corey was good at communicating via text leading up to the time we left. He did tell us the fishing was slow in the morning and left it up to us on if we wanted to go or not. Of course we DID! it was a nice day to be on the water. Corey put us on all the spots and we did catch but just not big enough to keep. Thanks again Corey! we will see you soon!!!
