About Your Trip

Head out with Captain Jose to fish with one of the Key's foremost authorities in putting fish in the boat. Captain Jose loves to run guided trips but his full-time job is fishing commercially. This man lives and breaths catching fish!

On these Reef and Wreck trips, Captain Jose offers the opportunity to fish these abundant feeding grounds for nearly 600 species of fish just 20 minutes offshore. You’ll be bottom fishing in calm, sheltered
water 10 feet to 30 feet deep for snapper, grouper, yellowtail, hogfish, porgies, grunts, jacks, mackerel and barracuda, to name just a few. Once anchored, Captain Jose will throw some chum out into the water column to create a feeding frenzy right behind the boat. The fish truly go crazy and promise to give you non-stop action as you catch fish after fish!

Captain Jose provides all the rods, reels, tackle, bait, and fishing licenses you will need for a successful day out over the reefs and wrecks so you needn't worry about bringing your own gear (Unless you want to!) All he recommends that you bring are you favorite snacks and drink, and the desire to catch a ton of fish!

Independent Guide
As a young boy Jose “Jr.” found himself on the water, being his father’s son, it was a forgone conclusion. If he wanted to spend time with his dad he was going to be in or on the water. As is often the case, that salt got into his blood at an early age and like a chip of the old block, Jr. has become an amazing fisherman in his own right.

However, while his love for waters off the
Florida Keys has never faltered, Jr. had other dreams as well. That dream led him to the baseball diamond where he took some time off the water to hone his craft as a stand-out lefty high-school pitcher. His love of baseball and his tireless work ethic resulted in a baseball scholarship and a college education. But like many before him the salt in his veins would not let him stay away.
Back on the water, with a new appreciation of the sea (not a lot of Ocean in the mountains of Tennessee), Jr. took his love of fishing and spear fishing to social media and has since garnered quite the following. It seems everybody wanted to see the next haul of fish, the next trophy Grouper or just to follow Jr.’s adventures, Above & Below the water’s surface. When he is not sharing his love and knowledge of fishing he is applying it. As a partner with his father, Captain Jose, Jr. also fishes commercially when he is not chartering. His time under the waves as renowned spear fisherman has given him insight on where and how fish live and how they react each to bait, weather, tide and many other factors that make the difference for a successful trip. The fact that he needs to catch fish on his “off” days makes the chances of you having an “on” so much better!!! They know the spots and the Sea.

Jr.’s experience is well beyond his years, but coupled with his youthful energy there is a strong likelihood that prospective charter clients might grow tired of catching fish. Jr. Is used to the rigorous work and hours of commercial fishing and will not tire or shortchange even the longest charters. Simply, If you want a great boat, a great time and a great captain. Captain Jose is there for as long and often as you need him.

Above and Below Adventures is not just a fishing charter it is an adventure company. Don’t fish? Snorkeling trips are available, Don’t snorkel? Day cruises and almost adventures you can think of are for the offering. At Above & Below Adventures if it can be done, we will do it. Consider Captain Jose your concierge Captain for whatever adventures you desire!
