About Your Trip

The Nichupte lagoon in Cancun, Mexico, is one of the best locations in the world for inshore fishing for Snook, Bonefish, and Tarpon! On this charter fishing trip, you'll be accompanied by Captain Travis, an experienced and knowledgeable angler who knows the waters of the Nichupte lagoon like the back of his hand. He will be taking you out on his 18' Hells Bay Skiff, a state-of-the-art fishing boat that is ideal for navigating the lagoon's shallow waters.

Your trip will begin with an early morning meet-up with Captain Travis at the Marina, where he'll give you a quick rundown of what to expect during the trip. You'll then head out to the lagoon, which is located just minutes away from Cancun's hotel zone. The Nichupte lagoon is an expansive waterway that stretches for over 7,000 acres and is home to an abundance of Snook, Bonefish, Tarpon, Mangrove Snapper, and more!

As you make your way through the lagoon's intricate network of channels, Captain Travis will be keeping an eye out for signs of fish activity, such as feeding birds or breaking water. When he spots a likely spot, he'll guide the boat into position, and you'll have the opportunity to cast your line and try your luck.

One of the primary targets for this charter fishing trip is the Snook, a popular game fish that is prized for its fighting spirit and delicious fillets. The Nichupte lagoon is home to some of the biggest Snook in the world, with fish weighing over 30 pounds not uncommon. The best time to catch Snook in the lagoon is during the summer months, when the water warms up!

Our Crew Luis and Manuel on the "Hot Tuna" were great. They never stopped working to get on the fish. Lines and bait were always in the water and their communication was excellent. I'll be on the boat again soon.

Overall, a good trip. Confusion on the start time of our trip. On the website we selected a 6AM start time. The night before I confirmed the 6AM time and was told that the start time would be 7AM. We arrived at around 6:45AM and text Travis that we were at the arranged location. He text back stating that he got mixed up and thought we were booked for 8AM (even though less than 12 hours ago he had changed the booked 6AM time to 7AM). We were finally off at about 7:40ish with Caesar, our Captain, and his deckhand. The first part of our trip was spent fishing for larger fish. We got in to 4 fish which may have been too large for our tackle as all four came off (broken line) but the fight was fun, anyway. We then moved in more shallow water and had a good time catching Queen Trigger, Grouper, Jack and Snapper. The last fish of the day was an enormous fish that we didn’t make any progress on and we eventually had to break off On the way back we ran out of gas. Thankfully there was a panga nearby that sold our Captain gasoline so that we could make it back. Overall, we had a good time.

We had a great experience with Captain Miguel and crew on the Christine 1. Prompt departure with all the gear ready to go. We caught bait fish to start and then tried our luck for larger species. At one point there were 4 of our group members reeling in a catch!

Water, soda and beer were included. There was a bathroom available and a nice covered area to stay out of the sun. Captain Travis was also prompt in communications prior to the trip to confirm details and provide instructions for our outing.

I would highly recommend and hope to return for another trip in the future for a trophy catch!

The trip was amazing. They don’t lie when they say you don’t come in unless you catch a fish. I took my 8 year old. We trolled deep see for 5 hrs had 2 separate 100 to 150lb sailfish attacking the bait. Unfortunately no hook set but no worries. Travis and the guys took us closer inshore for an hour on the way back and my son reeled in 2 big triggerfish 2 yellow snapper a barracuda and an amberjack. So finishing stony with 6 fish and seeing the two sailfish chasing the bait was awesome. Not to mention your catching live bait pretty much the whole time.
