About Your Trip

Escape the city and step into a saltwater fly fishing paradise just a short drive from New York City. With Captain Patrick at the helm, you’ll explore the incredibly diverse waters of the Long Island Sound—one of the most unique and productive fly fisheries in the Northeast. This is a trip built entirely around fly fishing, offering endless opportunities to hook into species like Striped Bass, False Albacore, Bonito, Bluefish, and even Spanish Mackerel at various points throughout the season.

The fishery here is as varied as it is exciting. Off the coast of Fairfield County, you’ll navigate a maze of secluded island chains, rocky reefs, sand and mud flats, deep drop-offs, and rips. One day you might be laying a cast into inches of water to intercept cruising stripers, the next you could be firing big flies into boiling bait balls as False Albacore rip through the surface. Whether you’re stalking fish by sight or blind casting into current seams, every outing is different—and every cast has potential.

You’ll be fishing from Captain Patrick’s Maritime Skiff 1690, a classic Northeast skinny-water boat built for fly anglers. With a draft under a foot, it can quietly access back bays and flats, while offering enough freeboard and stability to stay comfortable when the conditions get sporty. It’s a clean, capable platform that gets you close to the fish and keeps you dialed in throughout the day.

All gear is included—rods, reels, and a selection of hand-tied flies chosen to match local forage and conditions. Onboard, you’ll also find dry storage for your personal items, cold storage for drinks and food, and plenty of water to keep you hydrated. To stay comfortable and get the most out of the day, you’ll want to bring quick-dry, sun-protective clothing, rain gear just in case, polarized sunglasses to help spot fish, sunscreen, and a valid fishing license. Be sure to pack your own lunch and snacks to keep you going through the tide changes and fishy chaos.

Whether you’re looking to land your first striper on the fly or chase the high-speed madness of Albie season, this is the ultimate saltwater fly fishing experience—close to the city, but a world away from the ordinary. Captain Patrick is ready to put you on the fish and help you make every shot count.

What makes you different from other guides?
I am sure many guides feel this way, but I truly want my anglers to succeed; It's just as satisfying for me to see someone catch a great fish then it is for me to catch it myself. I'd do it for free if I didn't have to make a living.
