This week brought fairly calm seas and very little current, creating comfortable conditions for most of our trips. Fishing was somewhat slower early in the week, mainly due to the lack of current, but once we were able to get quality live bait and establish a good spread while trolling the reef, the bite improved noticeably.

Slow trolling live bait and kite fishing proved to be the most effective techniques. When we had the right bait and positioning, we were able to connect with several Sailfish, showing that even on slower weeks, dialing in presentation and timing can make all the difference.

We also had a few Blackfin Tuna around, along with some medium-sized Bonitas, providing steady action. One of the standout fish was a 20 lb Blackfin Tuna that put up quite the fight, making several strong runs before finally coming to the boat. In addition, we caught a few Mahi, mostly on the smaller side, but still great fights and a welcome surprise this time of year.

Snapper fishing in deeper water has been effective as well, giving us another option when the trolling bite slows down.

As water temperatures continue to warm, the fishing should heat up right along with them.

Dino crushed it! We went out for a 4 hour night fishing trip and he put me on my first tarpon on the fly (plus another 3 snook, 3 jacks, and a tarpon that broke off). And this is despite the full moon turning down the bite on the second half of the trip! If you can cast, Dino can get you on fish.

Had a great morning out on the water with Captain Richard and crew. Weather was great, water was a tad choppy but we still caught 2 Bonita, a couple tuna and a barracuda! Mate Dave said it was perfect eating at that size. Took him at his word and made a ceviche. Excellent! Who knew? And our small catch tuna made great poke bowls! We let the 5 ft shark go on his way! Cap Richard piloted us through the chop, excellent views, a decent catch. Plans to go again soon! Want to be on the ocean catching some dinner, book it with Capt Richard!

We went on an iguana hunting trip with Captain Dominic on February 22 and had a great experience. He was extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly where to take us to give us the best opportunity. It was not the ideal timing since it was only a few weeks after the historic low temperatures in South Florida, but he still worked hard and put us on a solid number of lizards. We were able to harvest about 12 that day. What meant the most to me was how attentive he was to my 9 year old son. He made sure my son felt comfortable using the air rifle and understood how to safely and properly dispatch the iguanas. That level of patience and professionalism stood out. I highly recommend Captain Dominic and we will definitely be back again this summer.
