Mosquito Lagoon has continued to produce good quantities of slot reds along with an occasional Bull. But these recent fu moon phases have been key in bringing the gator Trout up on the flats to spawn. Two days ago we had 8 trout between 20 and 25". Largest for the year so far has been 29". This will continue through June. In the Ponce Inlet area still seeing good quantities of sheepshead and flounder with regular hookups of bull reds and black drum. In the next couple weeks we will be starting the evening trips fishing the causeways in New Smyrna Beach for Snook and Tarpon.

As the winter fades away unfortunately so do the schools of red fish. With the water Temps rising the fish will start scattering around the bank lines and mangroves. This time of year I call the transition period. So we throw paddle tails pop n corks with live shrimp top water plugs and multiple artificial baits along banks. Also live mullet and chunck mullet or lady fish.

The snook bite has been really good the last couple of weeks with the warm weather. The water has been gin clear with lots of schooling reds and trout. The potential for a solid inshore slam is daily

Winter is upon us. As we experience cold weather and cold water Temps. The redfish and other fish are schooling up in numbers as a captain happy and excited to see. I have some days available to come catch fish and enjoy a beautiful day on the water.

It hasn’t gotten cold enough yet to really school up the fish but they are starting to gather and when you catch one stop there will usually be more. Today we caught Nemours trout of various sizes and one red all around the same area and with bait gathered. Light color paddletail baits and live shrimp seem to be the key but live finger mullet will also work.

Lagoon stays good and fish are chewing. Both reds and trout are eating soft plastics top water and cut bait. We are catching near shore lines as the water stays high. Call now and book a trip!

Well since hurricane Ian we have had very high murky water. But that’s ok because the bite had been good. This time of year is our transition period so that makes the fish spread out. So here at code red fishing charters we have been throwing lots of soft plastic swim baits , pop n corks with live shrimp, and some top water as well. Come join the fun and let’s catch some nice reds, trout , snook, and black drum.

Mosquito Lagoon is a one of a kind estuary where the Red Fish spend their entire life. Unlike regular reds that migrate and go offshore to breed this particular type is born here and spends its entire life here. With the loss of habitat in the past 8 years the numbers have been going down significantly which is why the catch and release only regulations for the entire Indian River system.

While the fishing for Bull Reds hasn't been what was expected this time of year the other species have been really active. Night fishing at the causeways has been good for Snook with an occasional Red. I had a charter with international customers following Icast last week and they caught 19 species. One was the monster Barracuda which ate another one which was a permit the customer had battled for 5 minutes and had to the boat twice before it became bait. The reds have been there during prime tide times. Still getting some slot size reds in the lagoon on artificial with an occasional trout.
