While the weather is cooling down, the fishing is heating up. Speckled trout fishing is really good with lots of slot fish being caught on float rigs and artificial. Sheepshead have been good but small. Better fish being caught over the last week. Sharks are a problem taking quite a few fish during the fight. Some reds being caught, many undersized and others too big. The temperature change should fire everything up. Let's go fishing!

Flounder fishing has been up and down with some good fish being caught on some days and them being hard to find on others. The mullet run has started to die off so the preferred Flounder bait, finger mullet, have become a challenge to get Fall back has been speckled trout with some really nice fish caught last weekend. Artificial, particularly soft plastics, have been producing uup against the grass lines on high tides. Sheepshead ought to start showing soon. Bull red season has arrived with bruisers in the 30 to 40 inch class being caught. Been a weird year for tarpon. Primary bait, pogies, have been spotty so beach fishing has been difficult. Some hsve been caught around the Mayport jetties and even up the St.Johns River in downtown Jacksonville. Offshore has been tough due to the winds. But those lucky enough to have snapper lottery permits have - surprise!- excellent catches. Just had Hurricane Helene pass to our west so hopefully things will settle down quickly and we see what's chewing!

Fishing Report for September 2024 Despite all the rain we had here in Florida the fishing has beeen great. The bull redfish have been on a pretty good feeding frenzy. The action has been good at the jetty and in the Amelia river system. The larger mullet have been found in good numbers, which is has been the bait of choice. The setup has been a 7 foot rod and a 6500 Penn reel or a 6000 Florida Fishing Products reel loaded with 65 lb Fins braid. A 4 foot 60 lb leader with a 7/0 Kahle hook. Cut the mullet in chunks and we are fishing in 18 to 30 feet of water. The speckled trout are also hitting good. If you can find the finger mullet it has been doing well or live shrimp on a cork setup has worked well. We are also getting some nice flounder on our trips.

Captain Mike was awesome! He was actively watching the weather the week before and staying in touch with us. We decided to move the trip up a day to avoid 3-5 ft seas. We stayed out an extra hour even with the crazy cost of fuel right now. I caught 13 snapper alone and had 2 bites so big they broke the leader line. It felt like the rod was going to be the first to break. My friends loved the trip as well catching probably another 10 between them. We will definitely be back in touch with Captain Mike soon!

Not a good trip. Left feeling like a charter took advantage of tourist from out of state. Didn’t fish with li e bait, didn’t have options of fishing spots, and the last spot was refueling dock where boat was refueling while we were fishing. We could have fished off the shore without him at that spot.
