Fishing has been on fire as the weather gets cooler and lighter winds come around. The shrimp are thick inshore, allowing drum and trout easy meals. Nearshore, there are acres of Spanish Mackerel, albacore, and bluefish are busting glass minnows. Dropping on deep water ledges has been providing nice flounder bites as well

Nearshore Spanish, bluefish and kings and amberjack have been consistent.
Backwater bite has been fire! Bait all over skinny water reds blowing shrimp outta the water from slot size all the way up to Trophy size (40+") they have been steadily eating topwater and flies, popping corks have been producing well. Speckled Trout have still been crushing corks and topwater, mostly morning and evening. Good numbers of Sheepshead and black drum.

Fishing has been really good here lately with the calmer winds and cleaner water. Nearshore casting at Spanish Mackerel has been steady with a mix of albacore for a fun fighting surprise. Inshore with the right tides, you can find scattered speckled trout and solid redfish, and starting Sept 1 we can finally keep the elusive flounder. Shrimp are all over the backwaters, cast netting enough for dinner to add to the plate!

Great fishing continues around Wrightsville beach with many different opportunities, from Spanish mackeral to great flounder fishing, red drum a few speckled trout and Tarpon are in the area. Expect great fishing for old drum citation size and fantastic Spanish mackerel and false albacore casting opportunities aswell. Tarpon can be caught but it’s a very specialized trip. If you’d like to book a Tarpon trip before the end of August call in to the team at Captain Experiences to hear about availability and pricing.
Though there are September opportunities for Tarpon, our focus switches back to the trout. As Speckled...

Wilmington has been offering a good topwater speckled trout bite early in the morning. Plenty of flounder as September starts our keeper season. Plenty of grey trout and redfish as well. In Oriental, the bull reds are starting to fire up. Morning trips with popping corks and evening bottom fishing with bait have been producing some big bull redfish.

The last couple weeks the wind has kept some from getting out and fishing but when the weather has cooperated fishing had been producing some nice fish. Trolling for Pelagic's has been spotty and when you do find them numbers have been down compared to previous seasons. Bottom fishing when you find your spot has been extremely good producing keeper gag grouper and for some reason lots of cobia. Almost every bottom trip produces keeper size cobia. Bottom fishing when you find your spot has been extremely good producing keeper gag grouper and for some reason lots of cobia. Almost every bottom trip produces keeper size cobia. Many of us agree that our cooler than usual spring that went straight to intense summer heat may have derailed some of the usual migration of certain species. That being said last few days those missing fishing are starting to show.

Our eco/island hopping/dolphin watching boat tour with Mike was amazing. He made sure we saw everything we came to see. My son saw dolphins in the wild up close for the first time. Each island stop was so cool seeing the different birds and water creatures. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the area. Highly recommend!!!
