Fishing is starting to pick back up after the summer heat. Water temperatures are 60 degrees in the early morning. So fish morning only for another couple of weeks. Once the temperature start to drop so will the water temperature.
Trout like 45 to 55 degrees the most. If water temperature reaches 70 the trout will die!!!
We managed to get a few small one this week on small flies. Small nymph and of course midges.

Trout don't like the heat gang. They will die if the water temperature rises to 70 degrees.
Now with that said fishing has been slow. Morning trips only this time of year. Off of the river by 10 am the absolute latest. Kind of the same thing they are doing out west due to the heat.
I am finding some hold over fish, mainly in deep water. You can either use split shot of weighted flies. I prefer the later. Had one client loose a nice on the other day. My estimate was 22 to 24". Really nice rainbow. Unfortunately...

it went down river into the rocks and broke off. Hey it happens. There is a reason why that fish managed to get so big!

Fishing as in most locations this time of year is slow. Why water temperature is a killer for trout. Trout cannot survive if the water temperature hits 70 degrees. Fish only in the early morning and be off the water by 10. That is always your best bet for this time of year. It's when the water temperature is at its coolest for the day. This time of year you have two choices for flies. Mainly midges and caddis. That about all you will see hatching this time of year. It will be is way till fall.

It getting hotter out there. The water temperature is still nice and cool since it's a tail water fishery. What that means for the fisher person is it's time to think small again. Midges have been the majority of insects hatching. Followed by tan caddis, black caddis, and the occasional PMD.

Fishing has been excellent!!! They are biting that's for sure. Hatches has been a little slow with most of them occurring after 9:00 am. Cloudy days blue wing olives in size 16 to 20. PMD's (pale morning suns) size 16 and 18. Tan caddis size 14, black caddis size 18 and Grey caddis size 16. Early morning fish the bottom with nymphs or caddis larva followed with drys when they start hatching. It's been fun gang. Good fishing to you all.

Spring is here and unfortunately for some with a vengeance! Prayers for all that have been affected by nature's storms.
Remember gang don't mess around if you hear thunder. Get out of the river. Wait till it passes then go back out fishing.
When your fishing the lower mountain fork you will find tan caddis, black caddis, occasional Cahill, BWO's and a few left over March browns. Oh never forget the midges. Try a two fly setup with two midges with an indicator. Cast it up stream and never take your eyes 👀 off the indicator. Strikes will be soft....

Levi was a great guide. He put us on some fish as a matter of fact. My girlfriend's first fish first trout. She ever caught in her life was a golden palamino, trout. When we get ready to book another trip, we will definitely be booking with you guys and preferably with levi. We had a great time.

Bruce was awesome. He was very upfront with expectations, where to fish, and how to catch them. Even though it was late July we were still able to catch a few in the middle of the summer heat.

Unfortunately Captain Chris was unable to guide my trip, but he provided Levi to guide us on our fly fishing adventure. The river was very crowded with family spring breakers but our guide put us on some very strong large trout. Turned out to be one of my best days in quite a while. My largest trout was 20 inches.
