It getting hotter out there. The water temperature is still nice and cool since it's a tail water fishery. What that means for the fisher person is it's time to think small again. Midges have been the majority of insects hatching. Followed by tan caddis, black caddis, and the occasional PMD.

Fishing has been excellent!!! They are biting that's for sure. Hatches has been a little slow with most of them occurring after 9:00 am. Cloudy days blue wing olives in size 16 to 20. PMD's (pale morning suns) size 16 and 18. Tan caddis size 14, black caddis size 18 and Grey caddis size 16. Early morning fish the bottom with nymphs or caddis larva followed with drys when they start hatching. It's been fun gang. Good fishing to you all.

Spring is here and unfortunately for some with a vengeance! Prayers for all that have been affected by nature's storms.
Remember gang don't mess around if you hear thunder. Get out of the river. Wait till it passes then go back out fishing.
When your fishing the lower mountain fork you will find tan caddis, black caddis, occasional Cahill, BWO's and a few left over March browns. Oh never forget the midges. Try a two fly setup with two midges with an indicator. Cast it up stream and never take your eyes 👀 off the indicator. Strikes will be soft....

March madness is finally over. It was very hectic this year with over 20 days on the river. A lot of fish caught and released. When the river gets this way it's always helpful to be with someone who knows the rivers and how to change with conditions. Fish get use to seeing the same kind of flies being used day in and day out. This is when you have to think outside of the box. It's times like this that flies such as the cripple were born. When the river gets this way it's always helpful to be with someone who knows the rivers and how to change with conditions. Fish get use to seeing the same kind of flies being used day in and day out. This is when you have to think outside of the box. It's times like this that flies such as the cripple were born. You could be using the best tied fly ever tied by the most known tyer only to have it refused. Why you ask? It maybe because everyone is using the same fly. A simple change up such as a cripple may do the trick. This past week for me it was midges that did the trick. But not the standard zebra midge. Nope that wouldn't work. They would eat one with a crystal bead and very small tuff of cdc. Same pattern but just a little differently tied.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. The trees are starting to bud out. You know what that means? I'll tell you. It means the weather is changing. It's spring type weather. What that means for the fly fishing person is that more bugs will begin to hatch. What kind? Blue-wing olives, March Browns, black caddis, tan caddis, midges galore!!! It means the fish will become very active will all the insects hatching. It's just starting!
We did really well with a March Brown imitation I developed some 15 years ago, just for the lower mountain fork. My clients hooked into...

We did really well with a March Brown imitation I developed some 15 years ago, just for the lower mountain fork. My clients hooked into 15 fish the first day and absolute fantastic second day with 49 fish hooked. All of them on my March Brown!

Best fishing lesson I ever had. Kit was so personable I didn't realize he was educating me while we enjoyed time on the water. Good guide, better guy. Highly recommend
