Shark Key Fishing Reports (July 2026)

Opening grouper season and we are already taking full advantage.

May 1 grouper season opened in Florida. We have some great spots to catch all of our grouper species, additionally Blue Line tile fish opened, so deep dropping is something we do while we are offshore looking for mahi and tuna.

Offshore Mahi Fishing is picking up here in Key West. When we offshore fish for Mahi or tunas we also typically hit deep drop spots to pick up bottom species like Vermilion or Yellow Eye snappers, Snowy Groupers and Tile fish

Spring is here and the fish are arriving in force! One of the many fun types of fishing available in the Keys is the evening tuna bite. Though tuna can be found throughout the day, the closest thing to a wide-open frenzy occurs just as the sun goes down. We troll small baits, extra fast and far back. Multiple simultaneous hookups are very common. It’s fast, furious and doesn’t last long, but the great-tasting, hard-fighting blackfin tuna are a blast on light tackle! Spring time fishing is heating up , we have a fearsome snapper bite going on right now reef and wrecks with plenty action with jacks , groupers , pompano , and the sailfish are starting to chew !

Florida is heading into the last month of the lobster season. There are still some nice ones around!!

They are very cool fish, when they are juvenile they have these very long plumes that light up in the water, they have to be 24 inches to the fork to harvest, I’ve got good spots for them if charters want to go for one
