The bay fishing has been good throughout the past weeks. Catching speckled trout on both live and artificial baits. Especially in that Margarita Green Water they love so much. Redfish have been tougher lately but still hooking some solid reds when the wind kicks up. Snook are being caught on the south end of our bay system when the tides are active. It's a good time of the year to get the kids hooked up on some nice fish and create some lasting memories.

The bay fishing around South Padre has been good if you like catching redfish. The spring winds have been howling and are leading anglers out onto the flats in pursuit of the redfish or red drum. This time of year we have an influx of bait that migrates into the Lower Laguna Madre Bay System and the gamefish like redfish and speckled trout follow the bait. Mix the bait migration with the high winds and you've got the recipe for redfish on the hook. I've been catching some solid speckled trout on soft plastics along color changes. The black drum are here also, just harder to find when the winds stir everything up. This is a great time of the year to get on down here around South Padre and wet a line for redfish. The end on May has always been a prime time to speckled trout fish. Those spring winds tend to die off and the speckled trout are thick in areas

March has roared in like a lion with spring winds followed by a spectacular calm day or two for sight casting with a fly rod or spinning tackle. Windy days have been good on wind blown shorelines for Redfish on jigs and topwaters with the occasional trophy class Speckled Trout....

March has roared in like a lion with spring winds followed by a spectacular calm day or two for sight casting with a fly rod or spinning tackle. Windy days have been good on wind blown shorelines for Redfish on jigs and topwaters with the occasional trophy class Speckled Trout. The color change bite remains strong for school-sized Specks. Find the bait and you find the trout. The calm days have been spent on the skiff with shrimp pattern flies or fluke style baits presented for the taking. Redfish aplenty along with some tremendous trout showing us their back sides! Sheephead remain strong off the jetties for the bait crowd. Did I mention some giant Black Drum? Been keeping a fish strip handy to pitch in front of cruising "big uglies" along the way.

The bay fishing has remained decent throughout the past week. Sheepshead are still thick at the jetties if the weather permits. Catching speckled trout all over the bay on soft plastics and live shrimp under corks. Try to find some deeper water near a transition into a shallower drop off....

Catching speckled trout all over the bay on soft plastics and live shrimp under corks. Try to find some deeper water near a transition into a shallower drop off. Fish are moving up and down these water depth changes. Redfishing has been better in the afternoon. Once the wind picks up the bite heats up as well. Expect it to be a busy spring break for fishing.
