It's been pretty cold down here recently... but the sheep's head bite has still be consistent and the redfishing has been great post front when it warms up a little.

Exciting time here along the forgotten coast. There's chrome in the water. In the last week, things have really turned around. Our weather patterns have gotten their act together, the water has warmed up and the early season tarpon are showing up. We are getting them dialed in and launching silver king rockets every chance we can. Fishing tarpon around the correct tide allows for some fun days fishing redfish then changing gears and chasing tarpon.

The weather is starting to break here on the Forgotten Coast. Just in time for spring break, redfish are invading the flats, and oh boy, are they hungry? Fish have been seen cruising the outside bars and chasing the tide up to the shoreline. A well-placed fly, soft plastic, or gold spoon has been getting the job done. Take a trip south to Apalachicola and let me introduce you to our hot inshore fishery.

This stud 31 pound redfish ate a soft plastic bounced on the bottom at a special spot we refer to as Jurassic Park.

Apalachicola fishing is heating up as the weather turns cold. Redfish are haunting the creeks and flats, foraging on everything they can find to eat. Soft plastics and flies make excellent offerings this time of year. Off the beaches Bull redfish are starting to invade the shoals and inshore sandbars, chasing schools of baitfish and shrimp. Poppers and topwaters have been getting smashed with explosive frequency. All in all, if you can brave the cold, the fishing is quite hot!

Fall time along the Forgotten Coast makes for some unforgettable outdoor experiences! Gator hunts have been doing very well! 24 gators harvested so far this season with largest being 10'6". Scalloping in St Joe Bay has produced very good harvests however finding them in the turtle grass has been somewhat difficult, season ends September 24th. Nighttime flounder gigging has been on fire with plenty of other species also filling up the coolers like large sheepshead, mullet, & black drum. Redfish starting to heat up with cooler water temps arriving. Live shrimp on jigheads & Carolina rigs have been producing best.

Great day on the bay with Captain Dwayne. He was super patient with our grandsons ages 8 and 13. We had a total group of nine. I was in the boat with Captain Dwayne, my wife , daughter-in-law and two grandsons. We had a second boat which Dwayne had arranged with Captain Tommy, my two sons and two granddaughters ages 11 and 13.we kept 68 fish between the two boats!! We all had a fun time. Thanks Dwayne and Tommy!!!

Drew was awesome to fish with. The water was a little murky but he was able to find those hidden gem spots and get us some meat in the cooler.

Trip: Bay & Flats Inshore Fishing Charter

  • ★★★★★
We had an absolute blast on our charter with Captain Krista. She was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible from start to finish. We caught so many fish throughout the trip, and as an added bonus, we got to see tons of dolphins and sea turtles along the way. It was such a memorable experience and one we will be talking about for a long time. If you’re looking for a fun, exciting, and unforgettable day on the water, we highly recommend booking a trip with Captain Krista. We can’t wait to come back and do it again!

Jordan was a great fishing Capt. and found us some Tripletail to catch. He knows the waters around Apalachicola and found the fish while the other Capt.s struck out! We had a fun trip and I would highly recommend him for a successful fishing trip!

    Trip: Tarpon & Tripletail Trips

Dwayne was awesome! He stayed in touch with weather and wind updates, took us out a day earlier than planned so we could avoid inclimate weather. Dwayne put us on trout and we limited out within an hour. Dwayne talked alot about the history of the area, my son has ambitions of being a fishing charter one day, Dwayne had alot of information about boating and fishing regulations. The boat is perfect and the equipment he has is perfect for this type of fishing. My son ended up catching the inshore "Grand Slam" trout, flounder and redfish. The best part of the trip was tripletail fishing, Dwayne put us on em and my son caught 2 really nice keepers, such a cool species. We had a blast this was the perfect inshore trip.
