The highlight of their three-quarter day private charter was a massive 40-pound King Mackerel (Smoker Kingfish)—an absolute beast! Last January as we started our morning out we were running along the coast when I saw a big dark shape. It turned out to be a giant school of the largest bluefish I've ever seen. Bluefish aren't a fish we target in south Florida, but I would if they were like these. We caught over a dozen and probably lost just as many. Nicest yellowfin I've ever gotten off of Miami Beach in 280 feet of water 1 mile south of Haulover cut literally just offshore trolling our regular spread he ate the left long ballyhoo on our 30 wide fish hit at 10:20 AM and we did not land this fish until almost 3 PM off of Port Everglades. This September off the Islamorada hump we caught an estimate 200-250lb blue marlin on 20lb line He ate the short bait behind the boat and went ballistic! Right in front of the whole fleet fishing at the hump. Epic! We landed him in 45 minutes on a shimano TLD 25.
